My gawd, Hardy, thanks for alerting us. This is so absurd and, yes, ugly, that it is hard to grasp.

The real source of bullying behavior sanctioned by the religious right goes to the very heart of religious fundamentalism wherever you find it—and that is the need for fundamentalists to create a sense of “other” to reassure themselves they are the chosen few. It boils down to “I’m going to heaven, but you’re not.” This is how they justify bullying, as well as killing other humans in the name of their god.

As as parent that lives in Gordonsville,TN. I have dealt with the issue at hand. I make it a point to tell my children to treat others nice no matter who they are or what their color is. I had an issue about this very same thing and I always told them to tell the teacher. The teacher will help you. The teacher wants to be as far as way as possible from the issue. Afterwards, I went to the school, told the teacher that MY kid will fight back. The teacher said: NO NO NO, you will not tell your son that.
What do you do? Your kids are powerless, the teachers are powerless, and you just send them blindly day after day and just hope and pray they'll be OK?

The students at the Gordonsville school told some of their teachers, but the teachers didn't act. How could you blame them, the system makes it where they can't do anything.
