Almost taking the 'summer' out of Dallas Summer Musicals

Dallas Summer Musicals has officially announced its 2010 season, and one of the most distinctive features is: Not much in the summer. Of 12 shows — 10 at the Music Hall and two at the Majestic — only two technically take place during the summer months … and only four between Memorial Day and Columbus Day. Hmmm.

The other odd thing: The return of so many (recent) prior shows. I mean, I love me some Wicked, but this marks its third tour to Dallas in about five years. What’s up with that?

Some other gay-interest shows include the soon-to-open 101 Dalmatians Musical, Xanadu, Dreamgirls, The Color Purple and Shrek the Musical. But how about some new stuff?

The brief run-down after the jump (all at the Music Hall unless otherwise noted).
