Flex appeal

MUSCLE MAN: Melvyn Miles competes in the Ronnie Coleman Classic on Saturday.
Bodybuilding admirers rejoice. The grand poobah of North Texas muscle showdowns is Saturday: the 2006 Ronnie Coleman Classic X, open to teens, novices, masters, men and women.

With his unparalleled mass and incredibly low fat percentage, Coleman is the current Mr. Olympia (since 1998) and an Arlington Police Officer. And there are throngs of up-and-comers hoping to follow in his footsteps and seize his title.

Dallas muscle stud Melvyn Miles (also known as Mark Williams to Colt and Falcon Studio followers) competes in the open-middleweight division. At 25, 5'7" and 176 pounds, Williams has been training hardcore for the Classic.

At the 2005 Heart of Texas competition, weighing 164 pounds, Williams competed in the lightweight division and took first place. Since then, he's bulked up while maintaining lean mass. If Miles wins at Saturday's competition, he'll earn his national qualifying credentials.

D-FW Hilton Lakes 1800 Highway 26 E. Grapevine, Texas. Coleman emcees. May 13. Prejudging starts at 9 a.m., $15. Finals at 7 p.m., $30. 817-465-9331.

Katy trail-blazing

LACING UP: The annual Katy Trail 5k run-walk-skate kicks off on Thursday.
Dallas sorely lacks a decent urban park. But the next best thing is the Katy Trail, the 3.5-mile pedestrian and bicycle path that traces the greenbelt of the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad line. Within spitting distance of several Big D gayborhoods, the 12-foot-wide concrete path is a haven for cyclists, skaters, runners, walkers, dog owners and it's a fabulous outdoor venue for scoping heart-healthy hotties.

On Thursday, the 8th annual Katy Trail Run-Walk-Skate kicks off at Reverchon Park. Money raised goes toward the soft-surface path, an eight-foot track made of recycled running shoes that will be built parallel to the existing trail. After 5k, there's an outdoor party-picnic with food from 40 Dallas eateries and music by The Blenders.

Starts and ends at Reverchon Park, 3505 Maple Ave. Inline skaters welcome. A half-mile event for children starts at 6:15 p.m. Entry fee $5. Parking available at Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. 2222 Welborn St. 214-303-1180.

Get that porno-smooth bod

HAIR TODAY … The Bodygroom gets the job done safely — close to the skin without nicks or tugs.
At one time or another, most of us try to shaving below the neckline. And just like attempting male eyebrow plucking, the results can be horrifying.

The new Phillips-Norelco Bodygroom ($40) promises to take the fear out of hair removal. Earlier this week, Norelco sent over a review sample. And being a body-grooming novice actually a grooming failure I gave it a whirl.
It actually works: not a speck of blood, hardly any itching and so far no gross red marks or ingrown hairs.

They have a hilarious website, ShaveEverywhere.com, where a sexy Troy McClure-like spokesperson encourages dudes to mow down the family jewels, chest, nipples, armpits, groin, butt and everywhere in between.
The Bodygroom can be used in the shower, and apparently the blades are self-sharpening.

The instructions indicate that you might not get the hang of grooming right away. And just like "The Muffin Tops" episode of "Seinfeld," being strategically glabrous isn't so easy. Sometimes one goes too far only after it's too late. While my nipples aren't hanging in slices, I'll be counting the days because only the zero-body-fat, muscle-bound and tanning-bed addicts should attempt that hairless newborn look.
