Jack E. Jett’s getting it on — to bang a gong

On Sunday, the DFW IndieClub borrows the format of the ’70s greatest tawdry kitsch pastiche — “The Gong Show.”

The IndieClub is a network of locals working in the biz we call show: actors, directors, producers, writers, cinematographers, grips, gaffers, CGI artists, makeup artists and any other slave you see listed while the credits roll.

For three years, the club has been on hiatus. But they’re reviving it in style with a “Gong Show” benefit, which will help fund a new grant.

Instead of “American Idol” like performances, the evening will be a short-film showcase. Queer bomb-thrower and T.V. talk-show host Jack E. Jett, above, will be one of the celebrity judges. Each film receives one minute of free play, then a gong appears in the lower corner of the screen and the audience must decide the film’s fate. The audience either sits back to enjoy the film quietly, loudly call for one of the celebrity judges to gong the film, or in many cases, it is a split decision. To date, approximately 100 films have been submitted, and $2,000 in cash will be divided between four winners
