Our own David Taffet has been following this story, and I’m quite sure he’ll have more to say about it here tomorrow. But for now I wanted to note that the Baptist General Convention of Texas is telling Royal Lane Baptist Church of Dallas that it must condemn gays to hell if it wants to remain a member of the convention.

Royal Lane Baptist recently changed its Web site to reflect its longstanding practice of welcoming gays and lesbians, as detailed in this story from The Dallas Morning News. In response, the BGCT announced today that it will place any funds received from the church in escrow, and asked the church to remove references to the convention from its publications.

ā€œIt is my prayer that Royal Lane Baptist Church will take the appropriate action to return to these Texas Baptist values and restore its fellowship with the BGCT,ā€ Randel Everett, executive director of the BGCT, said in a statement.

Mr. Everett, it’s my prayer that you’ll soon realize your only “Texas Baptist values” are bigotry and hatred. Until then, it’s my prayer that the folks at Royal Lane will tell you to go f*** yourself. Amen.
