CBS 11's Brooke Richie sets Baptist preacher straight on gay marriage

We’ll have more on gay couples from North Texas tying the knot in California in Friday’s print edition. For now, though, here’s a link to CBS 11′s report about longtime local LGBT activist Steve Atkinson’s plans to marry his partner of nearly two decades, Ted Kincaid. The highlight of the fine report by Brooke Richie (who happens to be a real minx) is her smackdown of Robert Jeffress, the creepy senior pastor at First Baptist Church of Dallas.

“It leaves open the possibility of defining marriage to be whatever we want it to be,” Jeffress tells Richie. “It cheapens marriage and really strikes at the fabric of our society.”

Richie follows immediately with this gem: “But to Atkinson and Kincaid, it’s about the law recognizing what they know in their hearts.”
