City Hall plans youth rally day to highlight service projects

The Dallas Park and Recreation Department, the Texas Youth Commission and the Greater Dallas Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse are sponsoring volunteer service projects as part of National and Global Youth Service Day on Saturday, April 21, at 9 a.m. at City Hall Plaza.

There will be an opening ceremony, rally and entertainment before youth groups separate into project teams and perform service projects related to underage drinking problems, landscaping, park beautification, environmental cleanups and equipment restoration.

The event’s theme is “Build Your Own Legacy through Volunteering.” It will include the unveiling of poster contest winners from participating city of Dallas recreation centers.

About 500 youth from North Texas are expected to participate in the event.

National and Global Youth Service Day, formerly known as National Youth Service Day, is a public awareness and education campaign highlighting the contributions young people make to their communities.

Youth worldwide are involved in community service projects April 20-23.
