The Dallas Center for the Performing Arts made much ado about the new Broadway series coming to the Winspear Opera House in the fall, but it has already scooped itself. This morning comes word that the debut B’way production will not be “South Pacific” on Dec. 15 as planned, but “700 Sundays,” Billy Crystal’s Tony Award-winning one-man show, which will open Nov. 17. It will not be part of the subscription series.
Crystal, a frequent Oscar host, holds a special place in gay history — he played the first openly gay regularly recurring character on a prime time sitcom when he portrayed Jody Campbell on “Soap” from 1978 to 1982.
