The other day I reported that Dallas City Councilwoman Carolyn Davis didn’t show up for Sunday’s gay Pride parade despite having indicated she would be there. To her credit and my surprise, Davis twice tried to return my phone call from Tuesday, and we finally spoke this afternoon. Davis told me she’s attended both of the other gay Pride parades since she was first elected to represent District 7, in 2007 and 2008.

“I just didn’t make it this year,” Davis said. “I left church, I had out of town family members come in, and it was a Sunday, so I had to deal with my family members and get them back on the road.

“I had personal family business,” she added. “It’s a Sunday, and I just could not make it at the last minute, but I do support it and I’ve gone for two years.”
