Jackson

Donald George Jackson, 64, of Dallas, died Tuesday, Sept. 8 in Dallas.

He was the son of Mrs. Ann Collier Jackson and the late Mr. Donald George Jackson Sr., and the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Howard M. Collier of Griffin and the late Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Jackson of Minnesota.

Jackson graduated from Griffin High School in 1963 and received his undergraduate degree from Stetson University in Deland, Fla., his master’s degree from the University of Florida, and his Ph.D. in communication theory from the University of Texas in Austin.

While living in Dallas, Jackson — known as "Film Coach," founded Jackson-Barrett Productions Inc. where he and his staff trained many successful actors and screen writers. He was admired and loved in his community for his hard work and dedication to many charitable volunteer organizations.

Don was known as a caring person who never met a stranger. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Jackson was preceded in death by his father and his nephew, Collier "Bo" Jackson.

He is survived by his longtime partner, Richard Shaver; his mother, Ann Collier Jackson; brother, Collier Jackson and his wife, Peggy; sister, Ann Jackson and her husband, Ziad Abusbeih; nephew, Matthew Jackson and his wife, Brandy; nephew, Stewart Jackson; niece, Summer Abusbeih; and great-nephew, Barrett Jackson.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 12 in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

A memorial service will also be held at a later date in Dallas.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, friends make donations to their favorite charity in the name of Don Jackson.
