Say hello to your new Idol judge

I have to admit, I’m not an American Idol watcher but I was pretty stunned to read this headline just now.

Ellen DeGeneres named 4th ‘American Idol’ judge

Seems like such a random gig for DeGeneres and correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think her music background is all that, um, existent but what do I know? I’ve never watched the show.
