Shame on your site... I just wrote a long, but honest review of Being in the right place at the right time, and getting involved in the Early GAY Rights Movemen in San Francisco... and knew Harvey and many pioneers. Your site called it spammy! I own several footnotes in gay history, and made some myself... and it covered 45 years. It's sad that your readers are denied finding out how it was to be a pioneer, in gay politics and sports. SHAME ON YOU...

There are five different references to Harvey having lived in Dallas in Randy Shilts' biography, "The Mayor of Castro Street." While imperfect, it is a far broader and more accurate compedium of facts about him than the semi-fictional movie "Milk."

One thing the film unfortunately fails to mention, because it would have given nongay audience members something to relate to, was his Navy service, as noted above.

While he was, of course, no longer the former Goldwater Republican by 1978, he remained proud of those years to the very end. There is a picture of the Navy belt he was wearing when he was shot at:

congrats, john, on a scoop-let. really appreciated learning about this bit of homo history, and kudos to emmons for doing the old-fashioned sleuthing of heading to a library and looking up something on paper. lemme know if anyone heads over to 2525 turtle creek, and snaps pics of where harvey and boyfriend once lived.

Harvey was a gifted man - living in Dallas was not one of his shining moments! We all make mistakes!
