There may not be a lot of nose-crunching hits, but gay flag football is a rigorous sport replete with action and finesse. Seven players hit the field, in contrast to American football’s 11. And instead of tackling, players rip a strip of fabric, usually attached with Velcro, from a ball carrier’s belt.
A new team in Dallas recently formed the Texas Bulls Flag Football, which currently has 13 members. Founder Jere Becker says North Texans who are looking for a way to keep in shape during the winter should try playing for the Bulls. Practices will be held through December and January to prepare for league play with the Village Apartments flag football league.
Becker holds a team meet-and-greet on Saturday, Dec. 17 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Mickey’s, 3851 Cedar Springs Road. Holiday practice schedule starts Sunday, Dec. 18 at noon at Glencoe Park, 5640 Ellsworth Ave. Practices held Wednesday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at noon.
