The Dallas Observer’s Unfair Park blog reports that Dallas city councilmembers will discuss their proposed budget amendments Wednesday during a briefing session. The council is expected to finalize the 2009-10 budget next week. A quick look at the proposed amendments shows that only one councilmember, District 14’s Angela Hunt, is requesting that monies for HIV/AIDS services be reinstated into the budget. The city plans to cut $325,000 for HIV/AIDS services, which represents the entire amount currently spent from the general fund, but Hunt wants to reinstate $250,000 of that. The HIV/AIDS funding, which has been in place for decades, currently supports programs at agencies including AIDS Interfaith Network and Resource Center Dallas.
