I enjoyed Hunx and His Punx but I have to agree that the songs do start to feel the same after awhile. And, as refreshing as it was to hear a man singing love songs to another guy, I kinda expected a bit more edge; especially considering his work on both Gay Singles and his turn as a penis microphone on the "Lust for Life" video. Still though, its a pretty fun album.

Months ago I kept feeling like Jessie J was the Gabbo of music. So many music and news sources I was reading kept talking about how she was the next big thing and posting her arty headshots with all the halloween makeup and angry sneers, but then I never heard any music. When I finally got a copy of "Who You Are" (which I didn't pay for, thank God) I had to say to myself, "Really?'. Her entire schtick has the feel of being assembled by some music exec that was just ticking off boxes on a work sheet. Zany makeup, check! Quasi-feminist lyrics that don't really say anything, check! And so on. The result being that not only is every other song some shallow, heavy handed "anthem" about being yourself -which Lord knows we totally don't have enough of- but they run the gamut of musical styles, resulting in something that just feels really confused and disconnected. I think she really needs to figure out who SHE is next time around.
