Sen. John Kerry is pressing for a Brazilian citizen to be allowed to return to the U.S. to be with his husband, after his asylum request was denied. It bears noting that if the couple were heterosexual, asylum would not be required — he would be entitled to live in the U.S. as the married partner of a citizen.
