I repeat, The Dallas Morning News endorsed Mike Huckabee!!!
February 27th, 2008Sometimes when you’re reading The Dallas Morning News, it’s helpful to remember that they endorsed Mike Huckabee for the Republican presidential nomination.
Just this morning, I found myself taking this story about Sheriff Lupe Valdez’s alleged electioneering at the jail with a “Huck of salt,” if you will. The story strikes me as an attempt by Valdez’s opponents, which include The Morning News and County Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, to drop some sort of last-minute bombshell on her re-election campaign. Trouble is, I think they’re way off target.
The clincher for me was when The News tried to bring County Judge Jim Foster into the fray, based on the fact that there’s an item praising Valdez in the most recent edition of his newsletter. Seems to me, Foster has as much right to say good things about Valdez in his newsletter as Mayfield does to say bad things about her in The News.
Then again, didn’t The News endorse Huckabee?

Very well said John. I think a lot of voters are agreeing with you; the Dallas Republican Morning News is not a reliable voters guide. I hope when this primary is over, the few outcasts of the Democratic party that have not jumped on Ms. Valdez’ bandwagon will do so. She has done marvelous things down at the jail and the department, and we are all so very blessed to have her. On the other hand, we are all cursed with Commissioner Mayfield and these viciously inescapable attacks against our Sheriff.

Oh, c’mon. She has done “marvelous things” down at the jail and we are all “so very blessed to have her”?
Next time don’t be so obvious, McPike!
