Gays and the GOP

Two more quick items before I go twelve-step my new blogging addiction.

• First, Log Cabin Republicans of Dallas is trying to change the Texas GOP’s party platform, which says homsexuality is, among other things, “contrary to the fundamental unchanging truths that have been ordained by God …” But it doesn’t appear as though Log Cabin and President Rob Schlein (pictured above) are going to get anywhere with this. “It would be extremely hard for anyone to try to change the platform of the Republican Party of Texas as it pertains to homsexuality,” says Mike Walz, executive director of the Dallas County Republican Party. In case you haven’t noticed, Mike, it’s also been pretty hard for any member of the GOP to win countywide office around here lately. Just thought I’d mention it.

• Second, while we’re on the topic of anti-gay fascists Republicans, we had a story in today’s print edition about Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s exciting new book. Well, it turns out gay groups already have been protesting Perry at book-signings.

Just so I’m clear on this: Doesn’t Perry still have the job of governing Texas? Assuming the answer is YES: why is he writing/promoting [out of state] a book about The Boy Scouts?
