I never suggested that Mr. Wright supports Sheriff Valdez, contrary to his assertion. I did suggest that the Dallas gay community should learn from its mistakes. I suppose if Mr. Wright wants to take that personally, that's his prerogative. To do so, however, would be yet another example of how Mr. Wright sensationalizes my remarks. Fortunately, this blog retains an accurate recording of my posts and readers are able to judge for themselves which of us is engaged in personal attacks and which of us is attempting to have a civil debate about the issues.

Jon: It's kinda funny because that's exactly what I would tell someone if they were to defend you, but for some reason no one has ever tried.
Neither myself nor Dallas Voice supports Lupe Valdez, but it's pretty clear that The Morning News supports Lowell Cannaday.
I wasn't defending anyone. I was merely trying to warn people about The DMN's extreme bias (as if that's really necessary anymore). But for you to suggest that I support Valdez because she's gay is like me saying The Morning News opposes her because she's gay, Hispanic and a woman. You and I both know it would be completely unfair for me to suggest that The DMN is racist, homophobic, sexist and in bed with the Concerned (White) Citizens Council, which is why I would never do any such thing. Ever.

Is there any possibility that The News could be even a tiny bit correct in its assessment of Sheriff Valdez's administration? The Dallas gay community should have learned a lesson from its support of former Constable Mike Dupree. Any time we're willing to defend to the death a politician, police officer or power broker just because that person is gay, we're setting ourselves up for disappointment and embarrassment.
