Over on DVtv, Ben Briscoe hit the Cedar Springs strip last night for this segment on local reaction to the California Supreme Court decision striking down a ban on same-sex marriage. Briscoe did an excellent job, especially considering that he obviously had to explain to some of the folks what he was talking about. It reminded me of this recent poll showing that, basically, many gays simply don’t have a clue about their rights — or lack thereof. It also reminded me of the story a local gay activist once told me: After the Supreme Court struck down Texas’ sodomy statute in 2003, she said she went to the bar to celebrate. The only problem was, nobody there even knew what had happened.

Oh well, I guess “ignorance is bliss.” Now I think I’ll head over to happy hour.
