Jenny Block: True Colors experience shows why concert is needed
June 25th, 2008Over at The Huffington Post, Dallas Voice contributor Jenny Block (pictured above) talks about her encounter with some homophobic kids at the True Colors concert on Sunday in Dallas. In more upbeat True Colors news, Jeff Strater reports that volunteers for the Human Rights Campaign signed up hundreds of people during the event for HRC’s “Pledge to Vote.” You can sign the pledge yourself online by going here. Also, Strater has joined the blogosphere. You can read Strater’s “Denver Bound Blog” here. (Strater, vice president of the Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance, will be a national delegate to the Democratic Convention in Denver in August.)

Thanks for the mention.
The True Colors Tour with the Human Rights Campaign was an effort to inspire our community and allies to get involved in the Novemeber election and vote. Attendees at the concert had the opportunity to sign the HRC’s “Pledge to Vote”. Local HRC volunteers worked during the concert to sign up hundreds of concert goers for the pledge. HRC will be working to mobilize those contacts to elect fair minded candidates.
I had the opportunity to meet Cyndi and got a picture with her (I will add it to my blog tonight). She had offered to meet with local people volunteering for HRC and getting out the vote. She grabbed me and said “get those f**kers out to vote!”

I’m sorry it has taken me so long to find this. But I wanted to thank you for the link.
I had the chance to meet Cyndi too. She is indeed an inspiration. I’ll be sure to post the photo we took to my blog as well. Thanks for the reminder, Jeff!
Wishing you all the best,
Jenny Block
