Apparently, James Dobson’s Focus on the Family gave SIX times more money to the yes on prop 8 campaign than did the Mormon church and related donors.

Glad to see this list published again. I posted one on my blog a few weeks ago and got lots of surprised comments. It’s amazing how many people in Texas care about denying rights to Californians. If the shoe were on the other foot, there would be a cry so loud you could hear it from New York. “We Texans don’t need Californians meddling in our business!”

In slightly gratifying news, I only saw one name (Rachel Weidman) from Dallas proper who contributed to the PRO-Prop 8 faction. Less gratifying is she gave a staggering $50K — the largest single amount reported.

Under California law, if you gave less than $100, the group that you gave it to is not required to report your name. As a result, contributions of less than $100 are often lumped together into one transaction for reporting purposes, with no name or state listed. Therefore, it’s safe to say that the amount contributed from Texas is slightly more than what I’ve reported.

I’m not on that list and I remember giving money to oppose Prop 8, but it was through HRC (they sent an urgent email asking for donations around the time that poll results started skewing in favor of the measure). Does that mean HRC didn’t use the money I gave them for the purpose intended?
