I was a bartender in a Ft Worth Gay Bar about 10 years ago. Raids were a regular part of my weekend. I worked in a bar that had an eclectic cross section of the Gay population in Ft Worth at that time. Just regular folks. It seems not much has changed. Nor will it, until we wake up and shout about these crimes against us. For authorities to smash a young mans head to a concrete floor of a gay bar during a raid is a crime against our entire community. Write emails, call, visit every public official responsible for investigating this crime. Don't be afraid to scream and SCREAM LOUD. This has been happening too long. It's time we looked beyond our next trick or next cocktail, and stood up, and SCREAMED,. ENOUGH.

Of course they are qualified to make the determination (@TJ). Their job is to find drunks and so that is what they do. And from the way the laws appear to be written, all they have to say is: "You are drunk!" and you ARE!!!!

re: "Alcohol poisoning claim on the part of the police"

I can tell you this:

Many years ago, my brother was in a tremendous car accident and was severely injured. But no injuries were visible on the exterior. As the accident was in a rural area, he tried going for help for the other passengers, but didn't get far from the car and was crawling in the dirt when Sheriff's deputies arrived.

Seeing no external injuries, they told him to stand up. He couldn't. The red neck deputies stood him up. He promptly fell down. He was then arrested for DWI - drunken driving - and taken to jail sitting up in the back of a patrol car.

My dad heard about this from local small town police and went roaring over to the jail. They let him in to see my brother who, according to my dad, was almost green he was in such deep shock. Dad's cursing and yelling at the deputies could reportedly be heard outside the jail. Upshot was that an ambulance was called and my brother was taken to the ER.

He had a broken hip, broken ribs, and broken collar bone (none of them, thank god were compound fractures). He was hospitalized over six weeks before being released. The DWI charges were dropped by the DA without being asked.

So, when the police offer a medical diagnosis "on the scene," remember this: They are NOT QUALIFIED to offer any such diagnosis AT ALL.

Maybe Chad Gibson had "alcohol poisoning" and maybe he had "they smashed my head into the concrete poisoning."

Or maybe he had epilepsy or any number of other conditions which the uneducated and unqualified agents of TABC and the FW PD may have mistaken for "alcohol poisoning."

There is simply no way the police on the scene could have determined he had "alcohol poisoning" so it is another "Quick! Cover Our Asses"<b>lie.</b> Period.

My brother went on to play HS basketball again, but never regained the strength to try out for college.

TABC is claiming that Chad was "...released to paramedics for treatment of alcohol poisoning and a head injury..." Anyone know if the alcohol poisoning was true?

Here! Here! Tammye! Been out and proud since 1987 have never used the words "Pro" and "Police" in the same sentence as it relates to GLBT! I have never met you but wanted to tell you to keep up the good work! You have been amazing through all of this!
