Thanks, AWJ, for acknowledging this legendary newsman. Seeing footage of him in “Milk” reminded me that he was the penultimate newsman.

This is how important he was: When CBS hired Katie Couric to host the evening news, which many saw as a dumbing down of network news, they hired Cronkite to voice the intro: “Thsi is the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.” Just hearing Cronkite’s voice say Couric’s name conveyed instant credibility.
