The CBS newsman may be most famous for reporting JFK’s death in Dallas in 1963, but for 40 years, he WAS TV news.

    Thanks, AWJ, for acknowledging this legendary newsman. Seeing footage of him in “Milk” reminded me that he was the penultimate newsman.

    This is how important he was: When CBS hired Katie Couric to host the evening news, which many saw as a dumbing down of network news, they hired Cronkite to voice the intro: “Thsi is the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.” Just hearing Cronkite’s voice say Couric’s name conveyed instant credibility.
