Cedar Creek area food pantry needs donations
July 22nd, 2009David Webb, the former Dallas Voice reporter who now lives on Cedar Creek Lake and operates The Rare Reporter blog, reported today that the food bank in the DeCuire Community Center at Celebration on the Lake Church is almost empty.
Food bank officials told David that there was only one bag of food left, and that demand is higher because area children are out of school for the summer, and because the economic situation has left a lot of people without jobs or money.
Friends nightclub in Gun Barrel City will be collecting donations of food and cleaning supplies for the food pantry through Aug. 2 (the bar’s general manager has already gone to the store to buy food to donate), so donations can be dropped off at Friends. You can also drop off donations at the church on Sunday mornings.
Check out The Rare Reporter for all the info.

We would like to invite your readers to visit
http://www.AmpleHarvest.org
to learn about a nationwide campaign to diminish hunger in America by enabling backyard gardeners to share their crops with neighborhood food pantries.
They can help both by encouraging local food pantries to register as well as encouraging gardeners to use the site to help find local food pantries (see /www.ampleharvest.org/InformingTheGardener.php).
