Katy Trail should thank Troy Aikman for being a friend tonight

October 22nd, 2009
Aikman will probably be a bit more casual than this tonight.
Aikman should be a bit more casual than this tonight.

Our favorite quarterback who has won a few Super Bowls makes an appearance tonight on the Katy Trail. The Friends of Katy Trail begin their inaugural membership drive (perfect timing, huh?)  tonight and Troy Aikman might just stop you in your running tracks to ask you to become a member.

He’ll sign autographs and talk up the benefits of joining FOTK at David’s Way, the entry spot to the trail at Knox Street at 6 p.m. Jayson Bales and the Charmers perform as well. This is a pairing easy to enjoy. The drive continues until Sunday at select spots along the trail.

Their raffle is totally worth looking into, though. At $20 a pop, they went all out with these prizes:

Four tickets to a Dallas Cowboys game in a private suite with one parking pass
Two American Airlines round-trip tickets to anywhere in the Continental U.S. or Mexico
One-year family membership to the Dallas YMCA
Luke’s Locker “runner’s fanatic” package including a Garmin GPS personal training device and Asics shoes
Hockey stick signed by the Dallas Stars players
Tickets to a Texas Rangers game
Soils Alive organic fertilization
Highland Park Animal Hospital services

Now that’s  good stuff. All of the sudden I hear the Cowboys calling my name. Or is that Soils Alive?

I will gladly give to the FOKT, but it seems like EVERYONE is asking for donations these days. I went to Taco Bell one night and the drive thru guy was collecting money “to end world hunger.” I thought it was a scam so I said no (can’t they just donate a few taco supremes?).
