Dallas’ Alyssa Edwards wins Miss Gay America

The Miss Gay America 2010 pageant took place this weekend in St. Louis, and the unlikely winner is Dallas’ own Alyssa Edwards. Edwards was named first alternate in the Miss Gay Heartland America pageants just last month, a standard regional pageant held in Memphis. She was third alternate in 2009.
Third place overall went to Dallas’ Sally Sparkles, who won the evening gown competition as well. Congrats to both for showing the world that everything really is bigger in Texas — including our men who impersonate women!

Alyssa, it’s always been your dream to be Miss Gay America, and I’m so glad that I got to be a part of that ride for you in the beginning! You’re an amazing entertainer and awesome young gentleman. MGA is lucky to have you as their symbol of excellance this year.
Sally, the crown is yours in the coming years. Stay true to who you are, and know you are greatly loved / admired / and supported.

Congratulations to someone who has more heart for this system than anyone I know. They told her not to go back, but she listened to her heart and came out on top! So proud of you Alyssa and can’t wait to see what you bring to the Miss Gay America System! You truly are a Symbol of Excellence!
