Protect Will Phillips!
November 20th, 2009Okay. A couple of days ago, I posted a blog here about 10-year-old Will Phillips of Arkansas who has refused to stand up in class and recite the Pledge of Allegiance until there truly is — as it promises — liberty and justice for all, and that includes equal rights for LGBT people.
Will told CNN in an interview that because of his stand, his classmates have made the assumption he is gay and have been making fun of him and calling him “gaywad.”
Now Jon Stewart has arranged some protection for Will:

This to me is bothersome. I feel every day people get defeeted and still love America. He should not be tought that it is America that is the problem. It is the education of the public about having 2 gay dads. It is would job to show that we do fail somethimes and we pull it back together and still go on. The old slogan”American love it or leave it” fron Veit Nam times. This only split the people more. This child has his point and point is taken! But still love your country and realize we still have the power to change things here. The rest of the World does not the have the advantage of speaking out like this and it is not positive focus for our gay next step for getting equal rights. Neither was burning flags in the 70’s. We do learn from history!
The parents would be more on line to offer education to PTA and introduce tolerance lessons in all schools and .. We love our country because we have these options and other nations do not. Making people proud of you ….this was is a negative to me. I am about a liberal as any one could be. ‘To maket change it must begin fundmentally by showing your love your country still and will learn the process to change the wrongs.

“I am about as liberal as any one could be.”
[sound of failure of the laugh test]
Liberals don’t say, “Love it or leave it,” rednecks and John Birchers do.
I’m impressed with William’s courage and maturity. And sadly, he is in fact likely to need protection from many of his classmates.
