So according to Conner people cannot change their opinions and see the error of their ways. I guess he alone has never been wrong and apologized for it. Well since Obama is against gay marriage: http://ryanjames.us/?p=904 and Bill Clinton signed DOMA I guess they are forever an enemy of the gay community in his estimation? Conner needs a reality check if he thinks either the left or right will support gay rights. There is ONLY one political party that HAS supported gay marriage and legalizing gay sex practices since it was created; the Libertarian Party. The LPs consistent and principled views say that the government has no place in marriage nor in policing sex practices. I am pretty sure there is no "elephant graveyard of the Republican Party" (as Conner states) that espouses these beliefs. Neither of the 2 Big Government parties will come out and state this; ONLY the Libertarians. The national gay pride group "Outright Libertarians" have worked with the local Libertarian organizations every year since they realized long ago that ONLY Libertarians believe that, "From Liberty springs equality".

[re-sending as I was sent an error msg that it had not gone through]

Oskar Schindler was a womanizer, a heavy drinker, and an opportunist. Yet, when some folks appealed to his conscience, he responded by saving hundreds of Jews from the National Socialists.

Bob Barr was an opponent of equal Rights for the GLBT community and a diehard against other civil liberties. But when some folks appealed to his conscience and his logic, he responded by becoming an ardent champion of privacy (working for the ACLU on this issue) and eventually repudiating his opposition to equal Rights for GLBT Americans.

Libertarians have always been solid supporters of equal Rights and adamant in opposition to anti-GLBT legislation.

Join with us in the work for equality.

I too had some very strong problems with Bob Barr, when he, as a Republican, helped to enact legislation that we Libertarians find abhorrent. The USA PATRIOT Act, The DOMA, etc. are the exact types of statist, rights trampling policies that makes us reel.

But, per, Jeff Daiell's commentary above, I believe that Barr really did come to the conclusion that he was wrong and changed his tune. He was apologetic and I had an opportunity to meet with him and asked him about those issues he promoted earlier.

Looking him in the eye, I really believed him and could accept his apology. With that said, I really think the Libertarian Party should probably look to more 'philosophically pure' candidates rather than the latest 'converted GOP/Dem politico'.

Truly, the Libertarian Party is the ONLY party who is fighting for your individual rights and freedoms! Check us out at the Alan Ross Freedom Pride Parade in our giant Alamo Float as we ask people to 'Remember The Rainbow Lounge!' and 'Remember Stonewall!". We are fighting for your right to be yourself - and not suffer at the hand of punitive government policies!!
