Constable, deputies confiscate assault weapons on New Year’s Eve
Dallas County Constable Mike Dupree, who is gay, and his deputies confiscated two assault rifles and three handguns while patrolling the streets of North Oak Cliff on New Year’s Eve.
Dupree and his deputies were part of a police effort to stop people from marking the holiday setting off fireworks and firing guns.
Dupree said one of the handguns he confiscated had been reported stolen, and two suspects were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, a class B misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $4,000 and up to one year in jail.
“People just don’t understand how dangerous it is to fire guns into the air,” Dupree said. “Bullets ricochet and fall at a high velocity. This is how people get injured or killed.”
