Phelps clan counterprotest at Resource Center Dallas

Counterprotesting the Phelps clan from Westboro Baptist Church is all the rage. Some in Dallas are planning to make a weekend out of it. But the best kind of counterprotest is one that raises money for a good cause. Resource Center Dallas needs a new ice machine for its nutrition program serving low-income people with HIV/AIDS. And they’re using Friday’s scheduled visit from the Westboro Baptists to help pay for it. For every minute the Phelps clan pickets the center, a horn will blow, and people will throw money into a gay Pride flag. As RCD’s Rafael McDonnell put it, “Bring lots of singles.” Afterward you can take whatever singles you have left over down to the strip.

DEETS: Resource Center Dallas, 2701 Reagan St. 6:15 p.m. Free. www.rcdallas.org.
