Queer Liberaction to protest HIV/AIDS cuts tonight in North Dallas

Latisha McDaniel and other members of Queer Liberaction reportedly plan to attend a Community Budget Forum in North Dallas tonight to protest proposed cuts to HIV/AIDS services. A few weeks ago I reported that the city is proposing to eliminate $325,000 for HIV/AIDS services, which represents the entire amount currently spent from the General Fund. (The city also administers some federal grant money for housing people with HIV/AIDS that would not be affected). The funding targeted for cuts was put in place decades ago and now supports programs serving primarily low-income people and minorities. The programs are run by agencies including the Resource Center and AIDS Interfaith Network. The budget forum is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center at 7900 Northaven Road.
