CEDAR CREEK LAKE — Former Dallas Voice staff writer David Webb now publishes a Web site devoted to LGBT community news in the East Texas resort located about 50 miles southeast of Dallas.

The Web site, which is called The Rare Reporter after a column he formerly wrote for the Dallas Voice, is a volunteer project. Friends nightclub recently presented Webb with a 2009 Citizen Achievement Award for his "commitment, dedication and support for the Cedar Creek Lake community."

Webb, who is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin’s journalism school, worked as a staff writer for various publications during his quarter-century career, including the Dallas Times Herald and the Dallas Observer. He also worked for the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala., for 2 1⁄2 years, where he helped launch an LGBT rights project for the nonprofit group and helped local gay and lesbian leaders form an independent statewide LGBT rights group.
