Sally and Pastor Steve are at it again

Oklahoma State Rep. Sally Kern made quite a splash earlier this year with her anti-gay rant at a Republican fundraiser. She has been quiet of late. But she and her husband, “Pastor Steve” Kern may be on their way back to the headlines now.

I just got an e-mail from Lane alerting me to a post on the Web site Gossip-boy.com, “Oklahoma City’s Choice for LGBT News, Commentary and Entertainment,” which recently launched a “special investigation” into Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett’s efforts to load the the Metropolitan Library Commission of Oklahoma County up with anti-gay zealots intent on getting all LGBT materials out of the library there.

The report, bylined by James Miko and Wayne Fuller, says Cornett wants to run for governor of Oklahoma next time around, and is using the Library Commission to court the fundamentalists and win their votes after the fundamentalists “sided against him” in his 2006 campaign for the 5th District congressional seat.

One of the reporters, posing as an aide for Cornett, called Pastor Steve to talk about the minister’s suggestions for appointments to the Library Commission. You can read a full transcript of the conversation here, but here is a Pastor Steve quote from it to pique your interest:

“We have to get rid of that and start curing those sinners. It’s past time that this nation stopped placating sin and started putting them in education programs. Courts can force drug offenders into treatment centers and violent people into anger management. There’s no reason our courts can’t do that with homos.”
