SEATTLE — Seattle police are investigating letters that were sent to 11 gay bars and The Stranger newspaper threatening to target them with ricin (RY’-sin) poison.
The letters sent Tuesday, Jan. 6 imply the attacks will take place one Saturday this month.
Police told The Seattle Times they are coordinating the investigation with the FBI.
The editorial director for The Stranger, Dan Savage, says he doesn’t take the threat too seriously because he has received numerous threats as a sex advice columnist.
Savage says the paper’s staffers made a point of visiting gay bars Tuesday night to show their support.
