Queer percussionist Barry Knezek keeps the beat for Lone Star Wind Orchestra

When the Lone Star Wind Orchestra hits Richardson’s Eisemann Center on Tuesday, get ready for a punishing blast of drums. The orchestra opens their second season with “Blues, Glory and Grandeur,” which features Russell Peck’s “The Glory and the Grandeur,” a piece that’s been described as “13 minutes of percussion dynamite.”

In the rhythm section, keep an eye out for cymbal crasher and xylophonist Barry Knezek, a Dallas psychiatrist in private practice who also has 32 years of skin-wailing experience. Knezek and his partner, Robert Clark, are both board members of the orchestra: The gay couple also helped found Lone Star Wind.
