Stonewall Democrats of Dallas have endorsed four additional City Council candidates in a second endorsement forum.
The group endorsed Mayor Pro Tem Elba Garcia for District 1, Camile White for District 5, Kevin Felder for District 7 and Jill Kotvis for District 9.
No recommendations were issued in Districts 4 and 8 because the endorsement committee “felt candidates in those races did not outshine” each other, according to a statement.
“The group, which had previously issued endorsements in the mayor’s race and several key council races, held the second forum to reach out to candidates who have not previously sought the group’s support.
Jesse Garcia, president of the group, said the endorsement committee commended the candidates for not “dancing around the issue” when asked about their stance on LGBT issues.
“The Stonewall membership and the LGBT community in general are urged to help support our candidates who are willing to stand up for our community,” Garcia said. “We need to give them our volunteer time, financial contribution and vote.”
In addition to the new endorsements, the group has endorsed Ed Oakley for mayor, Pauline Medrano for District 2, Joseph Hernandez for District 3, Steve Salazar for District 6, Angela Hunt for District 14 and Irby Foster for Dallas County School Board at Large Seat.
Early voting takes place from April 30 to May 8. The election is May 12.
