Book investigates Rick Perry gay rumors

Glen Maxey

Glen Maxey

Glen Maxey, the only out LGBT person to serve in the Texas Legislature, has just released a new book “Head Figure Head: The Search for the Hidden Life of Rick Perry” investigating rumors that Texas governor and Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry has a history of sexual tryst with men. Maxey used relationships built during his decades of experience in Austin as a legislative aide, state representative and lobbyist to track down the first hand accounts of men who have claimed sexual relationships with Perry contained in the book.

“Head Figure Head” is only available in e-book form via Amazon at this time. A quick e-flip through the pages promises an exciting read.

HGG 2011 Gift-A-Day: “Benedetto Casanova: The Memoirs” offers sultry holiday reading

CURL UP AND SWOON

Let’s face it: As much as we all may look forward to the holidays for the time off, a lot of it is spent listening to your partner’s family tell you about that embarrassing moment from his childhood… for the 11th time. Or watching college bowl games between teams you’ve never heard of. Or seeing your nieces and nephews play with the Wii you secretly wanted. Why not give a gift you or your loved one can use immediately? A book is the perfect gift: It requires no plugs, makes no noise and because it is a gift you just got, you can justify sneaking off with it and not seem rude.

For sultry Christmastime reading, Benedetto Casanova: The Memoirs (as told to Martin Weber) may be the best choice. An historical novel about the alleged gay brother of the womanizing Casanova, it’s a homoerotic travelogue through the Renaissance with Benedetto’s escapades making for sizzling sex. And a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book are donated to the NOH8 Campaign — indeed, NOH8 photog Adam Bouska designed the sexy cover. The book is priced at $19.69. Also comes in a Kindle version.

Available on Amazon.com and other online retailers.

Cher is the latest gay icon to get a comic book

I’m not sure who’s running things over at Bluewater Productions comics, but they know their gay audiences. Following up on previous celebrity bio-comics like Lady Gaga, Madonna and Ellen DeGeneres, the publisher announced today that Cher will get the comic treatment this December. Her story will be the latest issue of their series Female Force. The 32-page comic will feature art by Zach Bassett and Warren Montgomery. The cover is by DC Comics Joe Philips. From BlueWater Productions:

Writer Marc Shapiro said Cher’s life and career “reads like a comic book.” “The clothes, the times, the attitudes of the decades she’s lived through. The different styles of music she’s been involved in. So much of what Cher has experienced is so flamboyant, over the top and just plain out there,” said Shapiro. “She has been very much the real life equivalent of a superhero, and writing about Cher, to a large degree, has been just about letting my imagination go.”

With no specific date mentioned, Bluewater says to expect the comic in the month of December at comic book shops, Barnes & Noble bookstores and Amazon.

What’s Brewing: Sally Kern’s book; poll shows strong support for marriage equality in Ireland

Your weekday morning blend from Instant Tea:

1. Anti-gay Oklahoma State Rep. Sally Kern has written a book (right) about the national outcry over her comments in 2008, when she said homosexuality is a bigger threat to America than terrorism. Below are some of the tags Amazon users have associated with the book.

2. Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, a new poll shows that 73 percent of people in Ireland support same-sex marriage.

3. Fewer than 1 percent of state legislators in the U.S. are openly LGBT, but their impact has been huge when it comes to pro-equality legislation, the Associated Press reports. Texas, of course, is one of 18 states that lack an out legislator.
