America on the ropes, says ‘pro-family’ group on the wane

The American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer:

Rarely can you point to a moment in time when a nation consigned itself to the scrap heap of history. Today, when the Senate normalized sexual perversion in the military, was that moment for the United States. If historians want a fixed marker pointing to the instant the United States sealed its own demise, they just found it.

It won’t happen overnight, but happen it will.

And Republicans did not just stand around and watch as our military was shredded before their very eyes, they helped it happen. Shame on them all. [SOURCE]

Which is of course an awesome assessment. For if we’ve all been living in an America with which this particularly Family Association has self-Bryan-Fischeridentified, then it’s past time we mold the remaining scraps into something new, strong, inclusive and free!

But Bryan aint done yet. He is also ignoring the screening processes that accompany all military recruitment and service, the actual nature of disease transmissibility, the differences between sexual orientation and genuine lifestyle choices, and general facts about human beings and their characteristics/qualifications, instead painting “druggies” and “hookers” and gays with one broad, diseased, deeply offensive brush:

People will naturally recoil at the thought of allowing druggies and hookers to serve openly and wantonly in the U.S. military. But how is that different than allowing active homosexuals to serve? In point of fact, it isn’t.

Why, only prudish, antediluvian Neanderthal troglodytes would deny them the opportunity to defend their country! How can we possibly justify such egregious discrimination against such harmless souls? It’s time for the United States military to drag itself (pun intended) into the 21st century! Stop the invidious discrimination against druggies and hookers – now! Sign ‘em up! Let’s get ‘em into our showers and our barracks and foxholes! If we let gays in there, we’ve got to let needle-pushers and street walkers in there! It’s only fair! They’ve been denied the opportunity to serve their country for far too long! This terrible injustice must end! [SOURCE]

Oh you’re so witty, Mr. Fischer! Hopefully the scrap heap of history has an open mic night or something.

*REMINDER: Just this past summer, the Family Research Council — who every major conservative is now defending against the Southern Poverty Law Center’s “hate group” claims — booked Bryan Fischer as a military expert.

Tragic day for [groups that asked Santa for gay-less America]

SPLC-designated hate group Family Research Council responds to DADT repeal:

“Today is a tragic day for our armed forces. The American military exists for only one purpose – to fight and win wars. Yet it has now been hijacked and turned into a tool for imposing on the country a radical social agenda. This may advance the cause of reshaping social attitudes regarding human sexuality, but it will only do harm to the military’s ability to fulfill its mission.

“It is shameful that the Democratic leadership, aided by Republican Senators, has forced through such a radical change in a lame-duck session of Congress. The 1993 law which is to be repealed was adopted only after months of debate and at least a dozen Congressional hearings. The repeal has been forced through only eighteen days after the Pentagon released a massive report, which raised more questions than it answered on the impact the overturning of this policy will have on our nation’s military.

“It is clear why this was done: not to enhance the military’s ability to accomplish its mission or to enhance national security. Rather, it is a political payoff to a tiny, but loud and wealthy, part of the Democratic base. They knew that the Congress elected last month would never adopt such legislation – certainly not without a more thoughtful and deliberative process.

“We thank Senators John McCain, James Inhofe, Jeff Sessions and Jim DeMint, as well as all of those who voted to support our troops over advancing a liberal social agenda. These senators fought hard for our men and women in uniform, and their efforts will not be forgotten.”

And this, my friends, is how Republicans like Susan Collins and Scott Brown know they did the right thing: They ticked off a group whose leaders are on record calling for gays’ criminalization and/or deportation. On this matter of basic respect, there is no better measure for success.

The real question, Mike Huckabee is whether 60% of America wants to deport or criminalize gays. Because FRC’s top guy does!

Convenient dance:

[Mike] Huckabee was also astounded when the Southern Poverty Law Center labeled Family Research Council as a hate group, because they oppose same sex marriage. “So does 60 percent of America,” Huckabee said. “Does that mean that that 60 percent of America is a hate group?” [SOURCE]

Nobody Can Find The 2 Men Who Got Married Aboard a Virgin America Red Eye Flight

Last week some tweets claimed a Virgin America flight routed itself over Canadian airspace so a pilot could marry two homos. Except the flight's pilot says he's completely unaware of any wedding. And besides, for it to be legal a Canadian official would have to preside over the nuptials. Are we looking at a giant hoax?

To Avoid $1 Million Legal Bill, Philadelphia Short Sells City-Owned Building to Boy Scouts of America

After failing to evict the Boy Scouts of America from a city-owned building it had been leasing to the anti-gay group for per year, the City of Philadelphia has reached an alternative agreement with the Scouts: Sell 'em the damn building they want so bad.

The Dumbing of America

I recently posted this following comment on my Facebook status that got a lot of hits:

“I'm beginning to think that the Tea Baggers share one brain between all of them, and no one knows who has it at any one time. It's easy to see that they still haven't let Christine O'Donnell use it.”

This all started because of this following video that was sent to me by a good friend:

The status generated a lot of comments, mostly in favor of what I said, but others said I shouldn’t be making fun of people like that.  One can easily understand why I feel this way.  It's disheartening to see people who aren't smart enough to pour urine out of a boot if the instructions where written on the heel being elected in their primaries for Congress and even the Senate.  (The “urine in the boot” thing is a comment my father used to make, only he didn’t use “urine.”)  And, others raised to super stardom because they are so “fokesy” and cute, but have nothing that resembles gray matter.  Jon Stewart wanted to restore sanity in a country where insanity rules.  Good luck with that, Jon.  Steve Corbert had it right.  There’s plenty to fear.

The Teabaggers are the visible expression of what is REALLY wrong with this country.  They say they’re not racists, but they embrace people who used the N-word to describe the President and they lump all Latino people into the same “illegal” category.  They say they aren't homophobic, but they select people to leadership roles who advocate killing LGBT people.

They want change, but don't have a clue how to make change.  They just don’t have a clue, period.  They say they’re patriotic, but wrap themselves in the flag only to hide behind it and not respect it.  They want “We the People” to run the country, as long as corporations get more of our tax money.  They’re angry, but they channel that anger into hate instead of action.  You can’t build a house without plans, yet it seems their goal isn’t to build a House but to tear it down . . . and the Senate . . . and the President.

My comment about Teabaggers sharing only one brain between them is more spot-on then people want to admit.  With people misquoting or having zero idea of what's actually in the Constitution saying they want to “preserve it,” we get a bleak picture of the true dumbing of America.  The TV show, “Smarter Than a 5th Grader” is more scary then it is funny.  A country cannot compete in a global market if the average citizen isn’t smarter than a 5th grader, and America is quickly heading in that direction.

Here in Georgia, we have a Governor’s race that I’m embarrassed to even mention.  Hate, lies, hypocrisy and bigotry are the primary ingredients of the campaign.  I think we have it bad here, until I hear what is happening across the country.  Sometimes, I hope that the Mynas are right about the world ending in 2012, but when I think of my grandchildren, I hope they’re not.  A line from an W.C. Fields movie seems to fit well here, “It ain't a fit night out for man nor beast.”  I pray that America doesn’t become a country that “ain’t fit for man, woman nor beast.”  Looks like we got another struggle ahead of us.  Are you surprised?

Most Of America Believes 2,000-Year-Old Man Hanging On a Cross Is To Blame For Gay Kids Killing Themselves

Who's ready for some fun statistics-backed blame gaming! A survey conducted last week reveals some 65 percent of Americans believe organized religion is connected to higher rates of suicide among LGBT youth, while 72 percent say religious institutions are behind "negative viewers" of queers. Nearly a third of Catholics (more than twice as any other religious denomination) would give their own church's handling of homosexuality a D or F. And while four in ten respondents say all places of worship would receive a D or F grade, roughly the same number would their own temples an A or B rating. (Read: Everybody's views are skewed.) But in the middle of religious institutions being attacked, at least Christians and Jews — who disagree on some of the most basic tenants of life, creation, and the lord — are coming together on something: Archbishop Timothy Broglio of the Archdiocese for the U.S. Military and Metropolitan Jonah of the Orthodox Church in America both agree that repealing Don't Ask Don't tell could totally harsh on their shared belief that homosexuality is disgusting.

Oprah takes a sad look back in AIDS in America circa 1987

crossposted on Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters

I generally don't make this kind of warning but feel that I should in this case. What this clip shows will get you angry and will probably make you cry. But it needs to be shown what it was like when AIDS first came on the scene – the ignorance, the fear, the surreal hatred must be shown, remembered, and especially told to those who were too young to remember.

Oprah Winfrey took a look back at one of her 1987 shows. This particular one showed a community (Willamson, West Virginia) at odds with a young gay man with AIDS, Mike Sisco. The fears and hatred exploded when Sisco visited the local swimming pool and residents freaked out thinking that he had contaminated it. This is just a small clip of the show:
