Spend Thanksgiving with Lady Gaga

Ga ga gobble gobble

After the traditional turkey and pumpkin pie have been gobbled up, the next tradition is to plop in front of the TV for the rest of the day. For music fans and little monsters, ABC will air A Very Gaga Thanksgiving which the network describes as “an intimate look inside the life of Lady Gaga as she performs, in front of a small audience, eight songs including a duet with guest Tony Bennett.” As seen in the clip, she performs “Bad Romance” with what looks like a mutant sweet potato microphone.

GDMAF fundraiser brings Sweet Savage back to Dallas

fundraiser

David Hearn doesn’t come off like your usual party promoter. He has a little bit of Texas twang mixed with some quiet reserve. You might never believe Hearn is the guy behind the annual Metro Ball and Friday’s Gaga-a-Gogo party at the Brick.

“Well, I hosted what had always been known as the Virgo Party and that started 22 years ago,” he says. “It got too big for my small Plano house so I moved it to Dallas.”

But Hearn isn’t just a guy throwing parties — at least not anymore. Now, both annual events are for a reason and that’s the Greg Dollgener Memorial AIDS Fund, named after his partner, whom he lost to the disease in 1994. Two years later, the fund was created and over time, the fund has helped those with unique needs.

“We step in and help with issues that are a bit different,” he explains. “We helped replace one person’s tires so he could travel to his doctor. We worked to get one man a refrigerator because he had medicine that needed to kept cool. Where agencies can’t quite help, we can.”

But with funding cutbacks and a troubled economy, GDMAF works to keep up through  special events. Friday’s Gaga-A-Gogo party fulfills that, but also brings back the iconic Dallas drag queen Sweet Savage as Lady Gaga, pictured.

“We’re glad she’s coming to do this,”  Hearn says. “I know many of the people will remember her from days before.”

Dressing up in costume was a big part of Hearn’s old parties and with a nod to that, he encourages those to partake in the Gaga “hat and hair” contest. While Savage goes all out with her look, guests can get their own bad romance on with a Gaga-esque hat or ’do.

“We tried to make this event a little smaller, but with plenty of fun things to do,” he says. “We know its hard to continue to give, but we just hope to up the level of donations and continue to help relieve some of the stress people inevitably face.”

Queer interest with the Grammy nominations

Gay pop icon Adam Lambert is a Grammy nominee for “Whataya Want from Me.”

Nominations for the Grammy Awards were announced last night, and among the predicted big-name contenders are some of special interest to the gay community:

• Lady Gaga received six nominations, including best female pop vocal for “Bad Romance” and best album for The Fame Monster.

• Margaret Cho’s Cho Dependent is up for best comedy album against Kathy Griffin Does the Bible Belt.

• Two Sondheim albums are competing for musical show album: The revival of A Little Night Music and Sondheim on Sondheim. They contend against the revival of Promises, Promises with Sean Hayes and Kristen Chenoweth.

• Best compilation soundtrack album pits Glee: The Music, Vol. 1 against True Blood: Vol. 2.

• Michael Jackson received a nomination for pop male vocal for This Is It. Creepy. He’s competing against Adam Lambert for Whataya Want from Me.

• Best pop group vocal includes the cast of Glee for Don’t Stop Believin’ against Train for a live version of Hey, Soul Sister … which Glee just did better than Train.

• Elton John and Leon Russell, who were just in town, go up again Gaga and Beyonce and Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg for best vocal collboration.

Lady Gaga’s ‘Nothing On (But the Radio)’ leaked

About a week ago, Lady Gaga’s “Nothing On (But the Radio)” was leaked (likely by her label) as a hint of her upcoming album titled Born This Way, the title she announced at this year’s MTV Video Awards.  The album is set for a 2011 release.

There is no actual proof “Nothing On” is from her next album. Some online rumors say it’s merely a demo track and others call it a song that didn’t make the cut on her Fame albums. Whatever it is, it’s got buzz. The song sounds restrained and dare I say, simple, but nonetheless catchy. It’s just that anything less powerful than “Bad Romance” as a starter single just comes across as … meh.

You be the judge.

‘Bad’ romance? No, damn good: Guys go Gaga

It’s hard to believe all these guys are gay, but they sure have it going on with a mashup of Gaga songs (and moves). Watch this before it explodes on YouTube — you can tell everyone you saw it when it was under 15,000 views. (It’s been up four months.)

Fixing Craigslist

By Ty Pressley, The World According to Ty

For those of you who may not know, I’m pretty much like Scott Bakula from “Quantum Leap” (and I swear that any day now I’ll stop referring to that show in my punchline arsenal) — I’m bound and determined to fix the world.

Is there anything more amusing than the sordid and desperate ramblings found only in Missed Connections? Hmm, Dustin Pot Pie doing karaoke? Sue Sylvester from “Glee”? That might be it. Accordingly, I’ve decided to grace these CraigsList posters with my insightful — albeit unsolicited — advice.

After Hours TMC – Sat. Nite – m4m

Really like how forward you were. Not shy at all. I helped you find your vehicle in the rain. You drove me to my car. Regreting I didn’t get your contact information. Tell me about your vehicle make and model? Where was I parked and what did we do when we got there?

I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that you either shared an awkward moment of silence; or, more realistically, you folded down the backseat and created your own version of Air Supply’s “Making Love Out of Nothing At All.” If he was so drunk that he couldn’t find his car on his own — gotta love that commitment to excellence — he’s not going to find your ad on CraigsList. Unless he’s one of my drunk Facebook friends.

S4 Dance Floor Friday night – m4m

Your were dancing with four of your friends and you and another was wearing a vest (But you were the one in a dark shirt with the vest). You were wearing i think black jeans/courderroids with white nike hitops..with a nice ass.. We dance for awhile back to back and i touch you ass couple of times.. love to meet you and hang out…

Hold up. Friday? S4? Wearing a vest?? This guy might actually be referring to me and my besties on the dance floor!! This. Is. Priceless. Before you mourn over what probably would have been a cross between “Bad Romance” and “I Will Always Love You,” realize that there is no such thing as a Missed Connection at S4. You either went home with them, or you didn’t. And they definitely weren’t corduroy pants.

American eagle ne mall – m4m

Saw a cute dude with his mom at American eagle we exchanged glances hit me up if you see this never done this before hope it works

Let me start this by pointing out the obvious: He was with his mom. That’s usually a good indication that he is either underage, has no money, or has no friends. And you want to find him?? And you expect us to believe that you’ve never tried to hook up with a stranger online before??

Guy in the Red Ford Ranger – m4m

Friday you cruised up and down Bowser close to the Hidden Door. You and I spoke, for a short time, you said I was HOT. What color tank was I wearing? We should meet again, and you should come prepared. BEAR on the balcony. PS: I liked the mustache and the goatee….

I am quickly losing faith in humanity. Your tank top was a dark shade of failure. And if he had been interested, he would have told you to hop in and come home before his lesbian roommate realizes he took her truck.

All of these people have a few things in common:

• None of them are getting laid tonight.

• Do these people not bother getting phone numbers, or Facebooks? If he’s cute, introduce yourself. Get his name!

• None of them has any initiative. Seriously, try something original if you want to give a guy your phone number. Ex: “If you wanna call me sometime, my phone number is written on the bathroom wall.”

* If you think you might want to hook up with them later, seize the moment and do something about it. CraigsList isn’t a time machine and your best chance at a happy ending on CraigsList is rubbing … a lamp.

The Cliks' Lucas Silveira covers Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance'

Last we heard, The Cliks had broken up leaving lead singer Lucas Silveira to fend for himself. And that was some major bad timing. Morgan Doctor and Jen Benton left the band soon after this year’s release Dirty King (which may or may not be in my end-of-the-year lists coming up). But Silveira has bounced back with a new lineup including Tobi Parks and Brian Viglione, formerly with the Dresden Dolls. The Cliks performed a couple of shows last week and by the looks of this, the new lineup is working. Not a bad rebound.

Penetration Inc. posted this video of Silveira taking Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” to a whole new level. I must say, as a fan of the original, this acoustic version is some friggin’ sweetness.
