Bandmates tonight at Sue’s

You indie go, girls

Local duo Bandmates noted that they are playing a last minute gig tonight. With hippie flair and tunes that border on whimsy punk-folk, singer Kimberly Castrellon will win you over with her adorable allure while partner in life and music, Susan Carson will funk you up with her bass. You may have seen Carson last on the big stage with Jane Doe at House of Blues this past summer, but now she gets to chill with her latest band — and her girl.

DEETS: Sue Ellen’s, 3014 Throckmorton St. 8 p.m. SueEllens.com.

SMU marks World AIDS Day with film screening

Dec. 1 isn’t just World AIDS Day — it’s also the 22nd annual Day With(out) Art, a movement launched in 1989 by the group Visual AIDS to mark the effect of the AIDS crisis on the arts community. In observance of the day, SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts will be among more than 50 colleges, museums and arts groups holding a free screening of the film Untitled.

Untitled, from Jim Hodges, Encke King and Carlos Marques da Cruz,  is an hour-long,  non-linear documentary featuring montages of archival footage recalling the period of activism in the early days of the AIDS crisis. The screening will take place in the Greer Carson Screening Room (room 3527) of the Owen Arts Building on SMU’s campus, 6101 Bishop Ave. at 5:30 p.m.

Carson Kressley Is Coming For You, America

Oh, it’s coming. It’s called Carsonation. It comes out on the Oprah Winfrey Network in May. It’s a whole lot of me visiting small town America and being gay and zany and goofy and me. It’s about helping people living a better life or at least look and feel better about themselves. The cool thing is we’re doing it all across the country. It’s not taking people to celebrity stylists and going to Neiman Marcus. It’s using what’s available in small-town America, what most people have at their fingertips, and saying, “You can live a great life. Let me show you how. Believe in yourself.” And hopefully it’s funny!

—Carson Kressley, who will co-host the Oprah Winfrey Network’s Your OWN Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star, also has his own program Carsonation debuting and guuuurl, it is gonna be super positive [via]
