Game 6 of the NBA Finals (or the day the Mavs win it all)

Shut it down, boys

Today could be historic. Before the night is over, the Dallas Mavericks, for the first time, could be the NBA Champions. With back-to-back wins, they head into Game 6 with momentum and confidence. Just not home court. And the Heat are likely pissed. If they win, it’s on to Game 7 and that’s just going to be war. No like.

OK, and who doesn’t have a crush on J.J. Barea? Just sayin’.

Skivvies holds underwear model auditions tonight; talk about a win-win situation

Let’s face it: Every gay guy, at one time or another, fantasizes about being the underwear model that first made him realize he was gay. (For men my age. baseball star Jim Palmer’s Jockey ads had a greater impact than Will & Grace and a dozen Pride marches combined.)  Tonight, you may actually get the shot.

Skivvies, the underwear store in the gayborhood, is on the prowl … er, search — for the next Skivvies Man. Tonight, from 7 o’clock on, those interested in auditioning will get a fairly professional opportunity to prove their catwalk skills: There will be lights, camera and, we can only imagine, a whole lot of action.

So, if you or someone you know wants to shake a little booty for the camera, be there from 6:30 to 6:45 to sign up. And even if you don’t want to audition yourself … well, you can still stop by and see the men who do want it. And if you see Jim Palmer, call me.

Skivvies, 4001-C Cedar Springs Road. June 8 starting at 7 p.m.

MetroBall with Deborah Cox tonight at S4

A whole lotta Cox

Could there be any better tining for this year’s 6th Annual Metro Ball? The AIDS fundraiser is smack dab in the middle of Razzle Dazzle Dallas. We’d go no matter what since dance diva Deborah Cox is headlining. You know she’ll sing her signature hit, “NObodys Supposed to be Here,” but to a packed house. Ironic, huh?

DEETS: Station 4, 3911 Cedar Springs Road. 7 p.m. $30 GDMAF.org.

Razzle Dazzle Days continues with pub crawl

Years in the (re)making

What’s better than a night of drinking? Well, a night of drinking with a designated driver. Razzle Dazzle continues tonight with the Jagermeister Oak Lawn Pub Crawl. Yeah, we know. You could argue the pub vs. bar thing all night, but skip the semantics and partake. Although a nice beer and bar food spot in these parts wouldn’t be a bad thing. Great, now we’re thirsty and hungry.

A party bus will shuttle partygoers to participating nightclubs off of Cedar Springs. Participants can travel from club to club in their own cars or park in one place and ride the party bus.

Four Oak Lawn bars will offer a variety of entertainment, contests, dancers and more. The party runs from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. and participating clubs include BJ’s NXS, Zippers, the Brick/Joe’s and Kaliente.

DEETS: At participating bars. 8 p.m. RazzleDazzleDallas.org.

Cedar Springs car show, sidewalk sale postponed

Because of anticipated bad weather, the antique car show and sidewalk sale that was scheduled for Saturday on the Cedar Springs strip has been postponed.

According to Scott Whittall, president of the Cedar Springs Merchants Association, classic car owners are reluctant to exhibit their vehicles on the street in the rain. He noted that rain isn’t conducive to a sidewalk sale, either.

Both the sale and car show have been moved to June 4 and will become part of the revived Razzle Dazzle Dallas event that will be held on the street June 1-5. The car show is in conjunction with the Classic Chassis Car Club.

See next week’s Dallas Voice for complete Razzle Dazzle Dallas coverage.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo on the Strip

Fiesta on the street

Sure Cindo de Mayo has turned into a drinking-based American celebration, but we’re gonna drop some history here on you. From the completely reliable source of Wikipedia, May 5 is the “date observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War.” What’s that? Still wondering where your margarita is? Well, hit up the Strip tonight as it gets a touch of Latin flair for the holiday. From Sue Ellen’s to TMC: The Mining Company, the celebration highlights the block tonight.

DEETS: Blockwide Fiesta at Sue Ellen’s, TMC: The Mining Company, S4 and JR.’s Bar & Grill. Cedar Springs Road and Throckmorton Street. 8 p.m. PartyAtTheBlock.com.
