Kiss-in seeks domestic partner benefits for U of H

Pucker up!

Valentine’s Day is next Tuesday, while some battle the supermarket crowds for chocolate and champagne and others battle  that soul-sucking feeling that they will be alone forever, students at the University of Houston will be battling for equal benefits for LGBT employees.

“Our LGBT faculty and staff at the University of Houston are not given the same benefits as their heterosexual counterparts,” says James Lee, one of the student organizers. “This rally is an issue campaign to let administration know we care about our professors, directors and advisers and we think they all deserve to be treated equally.”

Lee explains that the event is not just for same-sex couples, the organizers want opposite-sex couples to participate to help demonstrate that straight and LGBT relationships are the same.  Got no one to kiss? No problem, says Lee, “We will have rally signs and other goodies you can show support with.”

The smooch-fest kicks off at 12:30 pm in Butler Plaza (in front of the MD Anderson Library).

Lava

Lava is an adorable chocolate-and-red merle heeler mix. He’s 5 months old and currently weighs about 20 pounds, so he won’t be too big when full grown. Lava is super-friendly, affectionate and full of energy. He’s good with other dogs and loves everyone he meets.

Lava and many other dogs, puppies, cats and kittens are available for adoption from Dallas Animal Services, 1818 N. Westmoreland at I-30, just minutes west of Downtown Dallas. The shelter is open Monday-Saturday 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and Sundays noon-5 p.m. Since Lava has been at the shelter for more than 45 days, his adoption cost is just $47 (half the usual fee) and includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchip and more. Adoption discounts are also offered to senior citizens and those who adopt two animals at the same time. These kings wanna get rocked
The peeps behind this show are pretty brilliant — not to mention a kick-ass flyer. Drag kings and local bands make up Mustaches & Music hosted by Christina Love. After Julian 4Play and the rest of the kings perform, Screaming Red and Electro-Shock Machine bring the rock out to finish the night. Sweet.

But this is Karyme now, at the National Organization for Marriage's bus tour (Vota Tus Valores) where she's helping drum up support among Latino voters for Carly Fiorina. How to rationalize her "support" for the gays (she has gay friends!) with her support for marriage discrimination?
