WATCH: Purple Party wants to start getting you in the mood for its big weekend of events in May

As a sort of “save the date,” the Purple Party organizers released this trailer previewing its big May weekend. It looks to be an impressive one with the lineup of parties they have scheduled. From Joe Gauthreaux, pictured, opening the weekend at Station 4 to DJs Paolo and Tank’s closing night sets at Plush, the weekend is packed with marquee DJs throughout five different venues in Dallas. Check ‘em out. More than just a party, the event also benefits AIDS Services of Dallas.

January BearDance with DJ Sean Mac at The Loft

The men at BearDance are building a solid reputation for bringing in marquee DJs for their events, as their inaugural 2012 dance proves. Atlanta DJ Sean Mac comes to Dallas tonight with his mix of house music, classic disco and even movie scores to play them for the boys and bears of Big D. You think it’s cold outside, but with all the body heat going on inside, you’ll be out of those thermals in no time. And that’s what they want.

London’s HiFi Sean (and former Soup Dragon) announced as headliner DJ for Big D BearDance

The men from BearDance have announced the headlining DJ for this year’s Big D BearDance. Back in March, they brought in the DJ team Blowoff featuring Bob Mould and Rich Morel to pack the house at Station 4. For 2012, the nonprofit group will host London’s (by way of Glasgow) DJ HiFi Sean. Also known as Sean Dickson, he’s initially famous for his work in the 90s alt-group The Soup Dragons mostly known for the single “I’m Free.”

Troy Sands Remembrance Party at Dallas Eagle with Tony Moran

Earlier this year, DJ Troy Sands passed away due to cancer. Through the years, he made both an impact and an impression with his music and DJ skills at The Brick in its former location on Maple. He grew his name by being one of the first DJs to headline parties and events outside of Dallas. DJs such as Blaine Soileau and Chris Cox have seen him as their inspiration for their musical perspectives. Before passing on, Sands deejay-ed at the Dallas Eagle. In honor of his life and his musical gifts to the club scene, the Eagle  hosts the DJ Troy Sands Remembrance Party which also benefits some of his favorite organizations. DJ Tony Moran steps in to headline the night, but this is truly Sands’ night.

Get your kink on

This weekend, it’s time to get kinky and retro.

Glory Hole is a not-for-profit fetish event production company (which also has a kink/fetish performance troupe, called the Gloryhole Girls), with beneficiaries like the John Thomas Gay and Lesbian Community Center and other LGBT and kink charities. It was founded in part by Lillith Grey, an artist, activist, burlesque dancer and college instructor in the sex-positive community (she’s also partner to reigning Ms. Texas Leather Synn Evans).

Friday is Glory Hole’s ’70s Porno Party. “It’s going to be phenomenal,” Grey says. “We have live music, The Foxxy Love Show, community vendors, a private portrait photographer, a voyeur room, a full dungeon, hot DJs, and a catered fondue bar, as well as a no-cash raffle.” (One donated non-perishable food item gets you one raffle ticket.)

The location is sent to members the day of the party, and the parties are BYOB with a very strict no-photos policy. Security and safety are paramount at these events. Costumes are highly encouraged. “RIsque is A-OK,” is Grey’s motto.

GIVEAWAY: A pair of tickets to The Twelves on Thursday night at the Rio Room

You know, we love our Brazilians (the non-wax kind) and after I gave you a dose of them on Tuesday, here’s your second. DJs João Miguel and Luciano Oliveira, also known as The Twelves, come to the Rio Room on Thursday night as part of the club’s impressive Summer Series, and the club is offering a pair of tickets to Dallas Voice readers.

The Twelves aren’t your usual DJ team spinning the music and tweaking the MP3s. From the Rio Room: “Their live show is a unique blend of live keyboards, drum machines, mash-ups and remixing on the fly. This continuously improvising duo is known for transforming indie tracks into dance floor burners for a diverse array of acts including M.I.A, La Roux, Two Door Cinema Club, and Fever Ray. This summer marked their breakthrough into the festival scene with appearances at Coachella and Pacific Music Festival.”

Although DJs aren’t really for watching, the video below displays The Twelves working over queer faves The Gossip. Just put it on in the background and imagine yourself on the dancefloor.

Spin 4 a Cause benefits The Humane Society tonight at Axiom

Hey, DJs love animals too. In tonight’s Spin 4 a Cause, the bi-monthly DJ event benefits The Humane Society. With DJs Joshua Welch and S.O.U.L.Jah on turntable duty and Jeff Roose hosting, music, food and good will all comes together. The best part? Pets are welcome to join the event in the patio. Just be careful with Fluffy around all that sushi.

Cazwell headlines a full day of Razzle Dazzle today

Once you recover from last night’s MetroBall, then you have a full day of Razzle Dazzle with today’s street festival. The day starts with the Sidewalk Sale and Fair where merchants once again offer discounts on your shopping excursions. The cool part will be the vintage auto show.About 50 autos from Classic Chassis Car Club will be parked along Cedar Springs Road until 4 p.m.

The night picks up when the Street Festival gets underway featuring live performances by Cheer Dallas, The Bright, Uptown Players, Chaz Marie, the Gary Floyd Trio and more. DJs Mickey Briggs and Tim Pfleuger provide dance music all night. All that will be highlighted by the return of Cazwell on the mainstage. And there is still all the goings-on in the bars and Midway of carnival games, a mechanical bull and an obstacle course. This could be like gay Wipeout.

Memorial Weekend dance party at old Club One

Save the date: Purple Party set for April 29

The Dallas Purple Party will be back in 2011, with two local DJs — Blaine Soileau, pictured (who did the Starck Red party last year) and DJ Moses — and the duo Freemasons providing the music.

Blaine is smokin’ hot (obviously) and the party is a fundraiser as always.

The date is April 29.
