Cain & fable: Another GOP hopeful dignifies Bryan Fischer’s ‘radical’ tales

Screen Shot 2011-01-18 At 1.22.16 PmWhat’s with socially conservative presidential hopefuls choosing the AFA’s uber-incendiary Bryan Fischer as the place to break news? Last week it was Tim Pawlenty announcing he wants to reinstate Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. This week it’s TEA party favorite Herman Cain, kibitzing with Fischer about all kinds of “radical homosexual agenda” planks.

We’ve yet to hear the audio, but here’s Fischer’s take on what went down:

Yesterday, perhaps for the first time since forming his exploratory committee, [Herman Cain] declared his firm pro-life convictions and his opposition to the radical homosexual agenda.

Another goal of the homosexual lobby is passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would give special workplace rights to individuals based solely on their participation in sexually deviant behavior. It further would expose any values-driven employer to a business-destroying lawsuit should he ever take abnormal sexual conduct into account in personnel decisions.

I asked Cain about whether, as president, he would veto ENDA if it made it to his desk, and he assured me that he would. Said Cain, “I would veto that relative to special rights to homosexuals.”

Bottom line: in Herman Cain, social conservatives as well as fiscal conservatives have a lot to like.

Bryan Fischer: Cain would defund Planned Parenthood, veto ENDA, supports DADT [AFA]

***UPDATE2: Newsweek notes recent raised profile: “You might think that attention in the form of mockery is not what a public-policy organization would want. But when your business is waging a culture war, there is no such thing as bad publicity for ideological or rhetorical extremism.” [Newsweek]

**FOR THOSE NOT FAMILIAR WITH FISCHER: He’s the guy who’s said that “homosexuals in the military gave us…six million dead Jews,” who’s said “homosexuals should be disqualified from public office,” who has called on Christian conservatives to breed gays and progressives out of existence, has called gay sex a “form of domestic terrorism,” who’s said only gays were savage enough for Hitler, has compared gays to heroin abusers, has directly compared laws against gay soldiers to those that apply to bank robbers, who once invoked a Biblical story about stabbing “sexually immoral” people with spears, saying we need this kind of action in modern day, who has spoken out against gays serving as public school teachers, has questioned why Medals of Honor are given to people who save lives (rather than take lives), who says that open service will “assign the United States to the scrap heap of history,” and who has blamed gay activists for dead gay kids, saying that: “If we want to see fewer students commit suicide, we want fewer homosexual students.” His words pretty much single-handedly landed the American Family Association on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s hate groups list.

Fischer’s idea of a truce: Gays sit down, shut up, and hope American Pie flakes off a few crumbs

Bryan Fischer works the fundamental misrepresentation that keeps anti-gay “culture warring” rooted into the realm of American pastime:

A “truce” would have been homosexual activists coming to the FRC and AFA and saying, hey, we won’t push gays in the military, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, anti-bullying legislation, special rights legislation based on gender identity, federal “spousal” benefits for partners of homosexuals, etc. etc. if only you’ll stop pushing for legislation that protects the integrity of the American family.

Bryan Fischer: Conservatives: Mitch Daniels truce is a surrender [AFA]

This is like a schoolyard bully setting truce stakes that say he won’t take away any more of a certain kid’s lunch money, just as long as said kid doesn’t seek to reclaim any of the prior stolen funds. Because the reality is that every single “culture war” point Mr. Fischer highlights — marriage limitation, military discrimination, wanton termination of employment, a national school climate plagued by anti-LGBT bullying, etc. — involves self-appointed heterosexists taking away the kind of easily, benignly level playing field that should exist under all American citizen’s feet. The LGBT rights fight is not really a push forward that deserves an adversary: It is a quest to reclaim the lost pieces that adversarial forces have swept under the national rug!

The “culture war” is a conservative-declared battle, filled with an uncountable number of lies, an exorbitant amount of squandered capital, and a priceless amount of human pain. There is only one side that needs to declare an armistice here — and it aint the folks who always thought they’d get a chance to live their lives, not pause their existences in order to toss back unprovoked bombs!

Forget birther movement: Fischer’s moved on to born-eight-years-ago claims

He’s the most powerful man in the free world. But now the American Family Association’s incredibly incendiary Bryan Fischer is suggesting that at his heart, President Obama is actually little more than a petulant third grader:

The president developed a habit during the campaign of subtly flipping people off by scratching his face with his middle fingerNow I believe the president has done it again. Go to the 1:27 mark in this video to catch Jake Tapper’s question, and watch the president flip him off at the 2:19 mark for asking such an irritating and awkward question

Screen Shot 2010-11-05 At 1.59.03 Pm

If this indeed is what is happening, it reveals something dark and thuggish about the president’s character, something far beneath the dignity of the office. The president is beginning to remind me of a juvenile delinquent as much as anything else: immaturity, an absence of moral values, and a perverse delight in destroying things (like the American economy) just for the pleasure of it.

FULL PIECE: Bryan Fischer: Did The Predient Flip Off Jake Tapper? (see videos) [AFA]

Stay tuned for Bryan’s next article, where we hear he’ll finally reveal secret, unearthed footage of the President first taking his toys and then proceeding to go home.

Fischer’s GOP: The party of ‘nope’

Values Voter Summit star speaker Bryan Fischer is building on the words of GOProud’s star speaker Ann Coulter, taking the latter’s latest column about Reagan being “her guy” and using it to say that the GOP should head in a direction that bans any and everything having to do with the gay:

If we apply Reagan’s determined counsel to critical contemporary issues, complete clarity emerges regarding the position that Reagan Republicans ought to take:

- Homosexuals in the military: Nope. Allowing open homosexuals to serve in the military – and running people out of the military who don’t approve – is an extremely powerful “government endorsement of homosexuality.”

- Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA): Nope. Giving homosexuals special privileges and protections in the workplace, based exclusively on the kind of aberrant sex in which they indulge, is a powerful “government endorsement of homosexuality.”

- Same-sex marriage: Nope. For the government to declare that couplings based on deviant sexual expression are the moral and legal equivalent of heterosexual marriage is a powerful “government endorsement of homosexuality.”

- Hate crimes laws: Nope. Giving greater legal protections to certain victims of crime just because they practice unusual and unacceptable sexual behaviors is a powerful “government endorsement of homosexuality.” Plus, this violates the classic American standard of full equality under the law. Under hate crimes laws, practitioners of unnatural sexual conduct are more equal than people who are sexually normal.

Reagan shows the way: no “government endorsement of homosexuality” [AFA]

There’s no hope in “nope.”

#VVS2010: Fischer’s hooks

In anticipation of Bryan Fischer’s Values Voters speech tomorrow morning, our pals at Right Wing Watch have rounded up some of the AFA personality’s most jaw-dropping moments:

[RWW]

Mike Huckabee spoke this morning. Mitt Romney’s on as I type this. Several GOP Senators and members of Congress are on deck. And tomorrow? A man who’s on record saying “homosexuals in the military gave us…six million dead Jews(even more offensive here at Yom Kippur, the very day that Fischer will be speaking).

This is “values voting”? In this America that we all share? Hmm. Interesting.

**Other FISCHER:

-The time Mr. Fischer said “homosexuals should be disqualified from public office”

-The time Mr. Fischer said that “homosexuals in the military gave us…six million dead Jews.

-The time Mr. Fischer called on Christian conservatives to breed gays and progressives out of existence

-The time Mr. Fischer declared that “Every time an HIV-infected male has sex with another male, it’s essentially the same as plunging an infected heroin needle into his arm. He’s passing on a potential death sentence, just as the Taliban seeks to do on a foreign battlefield.”

-The time Mr. Fischer said only gays were savage enough for Hitler

-The time Mr. Fischer invoked a Biblical story about stabbing “sexually immoral” people with spears, saying we need this kind of action in modern day

-The time Mr. Fischer compared gays to heroin abusers

-The time Mr. Fischer told us to just shut up

-The time Mr. Fischer oddly interpreted past historical oppressions

-The time Mr. Fischer directly compared laws against gay soldiers to those that apply to bank robbers

Bryan Fischer’s Greatest Snits

The American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer will be addressing the Christian Reich at the Values Voters Summit. Right Wing Watch rounds up some of his latest bits of bile below.

Bryan Fischer’s new bigot eruption: Muslims are violent, dangerous, & stupid because of inbreeding

Remember that Bryan Fischer works for a “Christian” organization called the American Family Association. It is based in Tupelo, Mississippi. He has made it clear that his tolerance for difference fails to exist when it comes to LGBT Americans, and now he’s unleashed a level of public religious bigotry toward Muslims that boggles the mind.

The level of dehumanization is ghastly and foments the spread of a vile, narrow image of America to the rest of the world. WWJD, Bryan? (via Right Wing Watch):

Lowered intellectual capacity is another devastating consequence of Muslim marriage patterns. According to Sennels, research shows that children of consanguinous marriages lose 10-16 points off their IQ and that social abilities develop much slower in inbred babies.

The risk of having an IQ lower than 70, the official demarcation for being classified as “retarded,” increases by an astonishing 400 percent among children of cousin marriages.

In Denmark, non-Western immigrants are more than 300 percent more likely to fail the intelligence test required for entrance into the Danish army.

Sennels says that “the ability to enjoy and produce knowledge and abstract thinking is simply lower in the Islamic world.” He points out that the Arab world translates just 330 books every year, about 20% of what Greece alone does.

In the last 1,200 years years of Islam, just 100,000 books have been translated into Arabic, about what Spain does in a single year. Seven out of 10 Turks have never even read a book.

Sennels points out the difficulties this creates for Muslims seeking to succeed in the West. “A lower IQ, together with a religion that denounces critical thinking, surely makes it harder for many Muslims to have success in our high-tech knowledge societies.”

Only nine Muslims have every won the Nobel Prize, and five of those were for the “Peace Prize.” According to Nature magazine, Muslim countries produce just 10 percent of the world average when it comes to scientific research (measured by articles per million inhabitants).

In Denmark, Sennels’ native country, Muslim children are grossly overrepresented among children with special needs. One-third of the budget for Danish schools is consumed by special education, and anywhere from 51% to 70% of retarded children with physical handicaps in Copenhagen have an immigrant background.

Learning ability is severely affected as well. Studies indicated that 64% of school children with Arabic parents are still illiterate after 10 years in the Danish school system. The immigrant drop-out rate in Danish high schools is twice that of the native-born.

Mental illness is also a product. The closer the blood relative, the higher the risk of schizophrenic illness. The increased risk of insanity may explain why more than 40% of the patients in Denmark’s biggest ward for clinically insane criminals have an immigrant background.

The U.S. is not immune. According to Sennels, “One study based on 300,000 Americans shows that the majority of Muslims in the USA have a lower income, are less educated, and have worse jobs than the population as a whole.”

Bottom line: Islam is not simply a benign and morally equivalent alternative to the Judeo-Christian tradition. As Sennels points out, the first and biggest victims of Islam are Muslims. Simple Christian compassion for Muslims and a common-sense desire to protect Western civilization from the ravages of Islam dictate a vigorous opposition to the spread of this dark and dangerous religion. These stark realities must be taken into account when we establish public polices dealing with immigration from Muslim countries and the building of mosques in the U.S.

Let’s hope America wakes up before a blind naivete about the reality of Islam destroys what remains of our Christian culture and our domestic tranquility.

This is complete and utter bullsh*t. What does Islam have to do with inbreeding? The United States has a good portion of its population in various regions — where Christianity in one form or another — that also had inbreeding. And the point is? How is the religious practic itself responsible for that? And what about the inbreeding of the ruling classes in Europe? How does that fit into this ridiculous paradigm?

The fact that the American Family Association would endorse and publish Fischer’s crap only confirms that junk science is a diet that this organization — and others like it — must consume and regurgitate into the public discourse. None of these people can or should be taken seriously or deserve time on the airwaves to gin up the anti-Islam irrational fervor that has taken over a slice of the public. That the AFA sees a benefit from going down this path after losing ground fighting The Homosexual Agenda shows how sick and craven Fischer and the Wildmon’s are.

UPDATE: A wealth of information about Bryan Fischer and his anti-gay, bigoted activities in Idaho is at independent journalist Jody May-Chang’s “The Fischer Files.”

Since leaving Idaho in mid 2009, Fischer has been catapulted into the national spotlight by ratcheting up his racist and homophobic hate propaganda on his American Family Association radio show and blog.

Had it not been for a complacent, lazy and negligent Idaho news media, perhaps Fischer would not now be the national poster boy for anti-Muslim racism, criminalizing gays and an embarrassment to Idahoans.
