Singer Matt Alber offers free music via Scruff app

To celebrate the release of his new album Constant Crows, singer Matt Alber is generously offering it up for free for Scruff fans. Well, the first 1,000 that sign up to receive the 10-track album. Just click on to the app and wait for the pop-up. He works his inner-Madonna by covering “Take a Bow.” You should see the boys loving that one with the comments on his Facebook page.

So start up your apps and hopefully you’re still within the 1,000 mark to get Constant Crows for free.

Music Monday: Jeffrey Altergott offers free download of new song ‘Resolve’

I think Jeffrey Altergott is living up to his bear status by the looks of his new cover for the single “Resolve.” On Saturday, Altergott announced that this new song is avaiable for free to the first 200. All you do is go here and click “Buy Now.”

Wait. Did I just say “buy?”

Yep. Altergott says that we can name our price for what we think the song is worth. I know. Kinda makes you feel guilty for downloading for free, huh? But hey, he said it’s OK, so if you decide, just name your price at zero dollars — or more. I’m sure he’d appreciate any scratch he can earn along the way.

Bradford Cox aka Atlas Sound aka Deerhunter frontman releases free music download

Yesterday, Bradford Cox posted practically a whole album on his website available for free download. Under his moniker Atlas Sound, he offers Bedroom Databank Vol. 1, 11 tracks of work recorded at home and on his computer. Of the 11, there are two covers: Dylan and the Band’s “This Wheel’s on Fire,” which you might know as the theme from Absolutely Fabulous recorded by Julie Driscoll and Adrian Edmondson, and Kurt Vile’s “Freak Train.”

Sure he didn’t do an interview with us when he was last in town, but all is forgiven since we’re getting all this free music now. Funny how that works.

Whitney Houston previews new album with free song download starting today

Whitney Houston gives us good love today with some good news. The date for her anticipated new release (and comeback?), “I Look To You,” has been moved up to August 31. But more importantly, she’s giving the title track away starting today on her site. Head here for the free download. How snazzy is that?

UPDATE: Just finished listening to the song. Not bad. She still has the chops and knows her strength will shine in those signature ballads of hers. Sure to be popular among drag queens for the fall season.
