GIVEAWAY: Two pairs of tickets to Melissa Etheridge at WinStar Casino on Saturday

Your plans this weekend could include a road trip to Thackerville, Okla. The peeps at WinStar Casino are giving us two pairs of tickets to giveaway to Melissa Etheridge’s show on Saturday. In case you missed her when she rolled through Dallas last year, you get one more chance, only it’s about an hour’s drive north. Not too bad for a queer icon, right?

I’ll pick two winners at random today at 4:30 p.m., but you gotta email me your answer to this question: Name two actresses have been in Etheridge’s videos and for which songs. Just put “Road Trip” in the subject line and your name and number in the email with the answer.

Good luck!

UPDATE: Two winners have been randomly selected to see Etheridge this weekend. Congrats to Debra W. who named Maggie Wagner in “Fearless Love” and Juliette Lewis in “Come to My Window.” Also, congratulations to Michael E. who listed Lewis as well as Gwyneth Paltrow in “I Wanna Come Over” and Jennifer Aniston in “I Want To Be In Love.” He also made the interesting point that each lady was romantically linked to Brad Pitt. I’d give ya bonus points if I could for that tidbit!

Thanks again to all who entered.

Queer-centric band Eric & the Adams break up

Eric and the Adams performed their final show as a trio last night at The Hunt Club in Tulsa, Okla. where the band is based. The band has played Dallas many times and singer Eric Himan has come to town as a solo act. The last we saw of any of them was Himan opening for Jay Brannan back in December. Himan and Angel Adams‘ have both left letters on the band’s site saying their goodbyes and citing reasons the band was dissolving — going in different directions, having babies.

We’re kinda sad to see them go. The band has been overly courteous to the Dallas Voice always being open to interviews and reviews.

Good luck guys in your future endeavors and we hope that last show killed! We love all your original work but we’re just gonna go back and remember the time you covered the Beastie Boys at Sue Ellen’s. Mmmk?

SHOW CANCELED: Win tix to Free Energy on Tuesday at the Loft

UPDATE: I just received word that due to the weather, tonight’s Free Energy show has been canceled.

The peeps at The Loft offered us two pairs of tickets to give away for Philadelphia indie rockers Free Energy show on Tuesday night. Yes, we know, random. But it turns out the band is super gay friendly and even recorded the song “Hope Child”, below, for the “It Gets Better Project.” We like when those straight allies go above and beyond.

But the giveaway is a bit different. Instead of e-mailing, you gotta tweet in. They just wanna try something new and personally, more of you need to get on the Twitter bandwagon. Just saying. First follow @dallasvoice and then tweet to enter by 3 p.m. Tuesday for your tickets. Good luck!

GIVEAWAY: We have two pairs of tix to Jay Brannan and Eric Himan on Tuesday

The Loft has given us two pairs of tickets to Jay Brannan’s show on Tuesday to give away. It’s a double-bill of sexy. Not only does the pretty-faced indie folkster headline, the hunky and tatted Eric Himan, below, opens the show with his brand of folk-pop. Kudos to The Loft peeps for booking a perfectly matched pair of gay musicians.

E-mail us here by noon Monday with your first and last name and “I wanna get folked up” in the subject line for your chance to win. Good luck!

FREE STUFF: 4 pairs of tickets to Semi Precious Weapons’ show this Thursday at the Loft

If you didn’t get enough of garage glam rockers Semi Precious Weapons when they opened for Lady Gaga this summer, here’s your chance to see them up close and personal. Taking a reprieve from the Monster Ball, they’ve hit the road on their own before getting back to their Gaga gig (we think – we keep hearing they are on, they are off, back on again – oy).

But we know this for sure: Semi Precious Weapons will return to town with openers Breedlove to play The Loft this Thursday. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. And we got tickets. Thanks to The Loft, we have four pairs to give away. All you have to do is e-mail us to snag a pair. E-mail notices@dallasvoice.com with their song title “Rock ‘n’ Roll Never Looked So Beautiful” in the subject line. Please include your first and last name and phone number. Winners will be picked at random.

Good luck! And I should see you there.
