Local lez musicans to go west for their first out of state tour — and wouldn’t mind some help

I received an email from local musician Sonya Jevette that she was about to embark on her first tour outside of Texas with two other musicians. She along with SuZanne Kimbrell and Rocio Aranda, AKA Immigrant Punk, announced their tour to Los Angeles earlier this month and they are doing it on the DIY. It was an easy decision for Jevette, once Kimbrell suggested it.

“My whole attitude for this year is go big or go home,” Jevette says, “so when SuZanne said ‘Let’s go to L.A.,’ I said ‘When?’”

And they’re doing it. You can see all their upcoming dates here.

Now they are just asking for some help.

No Palin/Trump slice tonight

Local lesbian rockers Immigrant Punk, pictured, and SuZanne Kimbrell turn up the volume on dinner tonight. They perform a double bill in Exposition Park tonight. It’s a tough call between them and the Mavs, but a win-win either way.

WATCH: Immigrant Punk video splices footage from live show in Denton, MegaMarch in Dallas

A few weeks ago, I wrote about Denton’s Immigrant Punk, the music moniker of Rocio Aranda. She fuses folk and hip-hop and social messages in her tunes. She came to Texas with her family from Mexico and, with national focus on immigration reform, not to mention what’s happening in Arizona, it’s easy to figure this is something that speaks to her.

Here, she took footage of her last show at Cool Beans in Denton performing “Shape of Hope” and mashed it up with footage from the recent MegaMarch that took place in Dallas. The video is “dedicated to the immigrant in all of us.”

Immigrant Punk is next slated to perform in Florida at St. Pete Pride, St. Petersburg’s Pride Festival, on June 26.
