Houston one of 21 most “Lesbianish” cities according to Jezebel.com

Another day, another list of queer cities written by someone out of state who clearly doesn’t understand just how awesome Houston is. This one from Jezebel.com uses internet search results to determine the most “Lesbianish” cities in America. Two Texas cities make the grade: Austin at 10th and Houston at 18th (so Houstini’s Dallas Voice overlords can take their rainbow colored tower and stick it where the sun don’t shine).

From the Jezebel.com article:

“Houston’s the largest city in the country with an openly gay mayor, the 12th most populated-with-gays US city and it’s also just one of the largest cities in the country, period. A string of unseemly governors have no powers against Houston’s thriving community and legendarily enormous Pride parade. Chances, one of the largest lesbian bars in the world, recently shut down; but there’s still drinks to be had at places like Blur, The Usual and F Bar and additional queer activities happening at the Houston LGBT Youth Center, The Houston GLBT Political Caucus and Houston’s LGBT film festival, QFest. Houston’s Rice University has a healthy queer community as well.”

The end is nigh — and it’s our fault, of course

Harold Camping of Family Radio Network says the world will end this Saturday.

For the last three weeks or so, I have been getting a bunch of emails from folks telling me that the world will end on Saturday, May 21 “because over the past 4 decades serious Bible students have been given understanding of the Biblical Calendar of History as recorded in the geneologies of Genesis 5 and 11.” (That quote comes from the latest email, signed by “Len.” But they have all said basically — if not exactly — the same thing.)

Len goes on to warn: “Given the Bible’s Calendar, May 21, 2011 is the 7000th anniversary (to the very day) of Noah’s flood and the Door of Salvation in the ark, a picture of Christ Jesus, was shut. (Genesis 7:11 and 2 peter 3:3-10). There are other proofs within the Holy Bible that assures us Christ’s return will come to pass on May 21 when God will catch up His people and with a catastrophic earthquake commence the final 153 days of the earth and on October 21 the universe will be annihilated.”

Len — and apparently others — is praying that I will “carefully review and investigate this fast approaching event,” but since they seem pretty steadfast in their belief that this is what will happen, I am not sure what they want me to do about it. Am I supposed to help them to warn others to get right with Jesus om the next three days? Or do they just want me to know — for sure — that I am about to burn for eternity?

‘Poltergay’ — the movie about gay ghosts

I am a big fan of ghost stories and reality TV shows about ghost hunters, etc. And Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, if for no other reason than the fact that the TV channels are full of good, scary ghost stories all month long in October.

So many ghost stories are stories about star-crossed lovers who keep searching for one another, striving to be together, even after death. But I have never seen a story like that about same-sex ghost lovers. So just on a whim, I decided to see what would come up when I did an Internet search for “gay +ghost.” What did I find? A French movie called Poltergay.

I admit, when I first saw the title I figured it was a gay porn remake of Poltergeist (which by the way, is one of my favorite films. Poltergeist, I mean; not gay porn remakes). But then I read the description and watched the trailer, and I decided I really need to see this one!

Here’s the description, from Wikipedia: “Emma and Marc, two young lovers, move into a house which has been uninhabited for thirty years. What they don’t know is that in 1979, in a cave under the house, there was a gay disco, which burned down when a foam machine short-circuited, and five bodies were never found. Today, the house is haunted by five gay ghosts. However, only Marc is able to see them, and his visions drive Emma away. The ghosts, touched by Marc’s problems, do everything in their power to help him get his girl back.”

And here is the trailer:

Now if I could just find a version in English, or at least with subtitles!!
