Paladino Attacks Cuomo’s Gay Rights Record, Wife Speaks

Cuomoland
Carl Paladino has released the first in what he says will be a series of vibrantly-named attack ads aimed at Andrew Cuomo. The first so-called "Cuomo Land" ad lambastes the gubernatorial candidate for being hypocritical in his stance on marriage equality in New York state.

The New York Daily News points out how the ad might be a bad idea for Paladino:

Paladino, who staunchly opposes gay nuptials, accused Cuomo of being a hypocrite for touting his support for same-sex weddings now – but being "all but invisible" when the issue was before the Legislature last year. "He was asked by those pushing for the measure to call three wavering senators," the Paladino campaign said in the first of what it promises will be daily "Cuomo Land" attacks.

Political pros were puzzled that Paladino would attack Cuomo on gays, given that the Tea Party darling's campaign unraveled this week after he delivered an anti-gay diatribe. Veteran Democratic operative Hank Sheinkopf called it a "bad choice of a first issue" for the "Cuomo Land" attacks. "All it will do is reinforce the fact that he looked like a bigot last week," Sheinkopf said.

Paladino lifts some of his attack information from this New York Times article, published earlier this summer, that focused on Cuomo's support of the gay community.

Meanwhile, taking a different approach than Laura Bush did during her husband's run in the White House, Mrs. Paladino has publicly stated her opinion on marriage equality. She told the New York Times: “I have gay friends, and they’re some of the most generous, loving people you ever want to meet. If they want to live together and be together and share a life, that’s their business.”

She also commented on his controversial remarks last weekend: “I don’t know how it came out. Probably badly — it usually does.” When someone says, "There is nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual," I'd say "badly" is an understatement.

Mrs. Paladino also revealed that her openly gay nephew is upset by her husband's critical views on the LGBT community. Sounds like that's why he went AWOL earlier this week.

Andrew Cuomo says "Gay Marriage is the civil rights issue of our time" (New York Daily News, Oct 15, 2010)
"As a landmark gay marriage bill hurtled toward an uncertain vote last year, New York's Democratic leaders scrambled to corral support. Gov. David A. Paterson delivered impassioned speeches, Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand headlined a giant rally and City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn shuttled back and forth to Albany to lobby lawmakers.

But the state's most popular Democrat, Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo, was all but invisible.

He was asked by those pushing for the measure to call three wavering senators. He never spoke with two of them, their aides said, and did not reach another until after the senator had voted — against the bill.

In the end, none of the three senators supported the bill." (The New York Times July 8, 2010)

Paladino Asks For ‘Forgiveness’ After Anti-Gay Rant

Paladinofinger

Carl Paladino’s campaign finally got around to issuing an apology for the New York gubernatorial hopeful’s gay “brainwashing” comment on Sunday.

“I am neither perfect, nor a career politician. I have made mistakes in this campaign,” said the Republican in an email sent this afternoon, one day after taking to the television to continue pleading his anti-gay case. “I ask you for forgiveness on my poorly chosen words and the publication by others not involved with our campaign of unredacted script that did not reflect my oral statement or match my personal feelings.”

Paladino’s last remark concerns a part of the speech, written by an Orthodox rabbi for Paladino, that declared, “[There is] nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual.” Paladino’s decision to skip that bit garnered him praise from none other than Ann Coulter.

You Know It’s Bad For Carl Paladino When Other Extreme Right-Wingers Are Ditching Him

Christine O'Donnell. Carl Paladino. Is there anything extremist Republican political candidates can't do to offend our senses? Even Paladino's consultant Roger Stone is disgusted, as is staunch GOP defender Karol Markowicz, who says she "wanted to like Carl Paladino," and even though she was "disgusted by his life choices" still stood by him. Then came the (latest round of) comments about gays. "To be clear, my issue is not the statement he denies making, the one about gay people being dysfunctional. My problem is everything else he admits to saying." And then Mark McKinnon, former George W. Bush and John McCain adviser, tells Rachel Maddow that Paladino "is such a throwback [to the days of Jesse Helms] he makes Archie Bunker look like Howard Dean."

Count Bryan ‘gay sex is a form of domestic terrorism’ Fischer in the Carl Paladino fan club

NY gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino has found himself a public supporter. This new voice of solidarity comes in the form of the American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer, a man who has claimed that “homosexuals in the military gave us…six million dead Jews,” who’s said “homosexuals should be disqualified from public office,” who has called on Christian conservatives to breed gays and progressives out of existence, has called gay sex a “form of domestic terrorism,” who’s said only gays were savage enough for Hitler, has compared gays to heroin abusers, has directly compared laws against gay soldiers to those that apply to bank robbers, who once invoked a Biblical story about stabbing “sexually immoral” people with spears, saying we need this kind of action in modern day, and who has spoken out against gays serving as public school teachers.

Take it (way, way) away, Bryan:

Everything – every single thing – that Paladino said about the homosexual lifestyle yesterday was dead on the money. What he said is so true and so evident and so obvious that the real 6A00D8341C503453Ef01310F3588E8970Ccontroversy here is that there is any controversy at all.

The fact that homosexual activists will now bare their fangs, veritably dripping saliva as they go for Paladino’s carotid artery, and will do so with the full-throated blessing of the out-of-the-mainstream media, only illustrates the enormously dangerous clout these purveyors of perversity have been given in our culture.

Paladino properly shamed Cuomo for marching in New York’s gay pride parade with his two daughters, saying, “that’s not the kind of example we should be showing our children.”

Referring to the unconscionable way impressionable young children are being indoctrinated (rather than educated) in our public schools, he said, “I don’t want them to be brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option – it isn’t.”

He affirmed unapologetically that “marriage is between a man and a woman. Period,” and vowed to veto any same-sex marriage bill that reaches his desk on the grounds that it would be “immoral legislation.” He spoke the simple truth when he said that our children “would be much better off and much more successful getting married and raising a family.” Good for him.

In the written remarks he prepared for delivery to Hasidic Jewish leaders, he added that there is “nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual.”

There frankly is no other kind of homosexual than the dysfunctional kind. Homosexuals are dysfunctional by the very nature of the aberrant sexual conduct in which they engage. As the Roman Catholic Church correctly says, homosexual behavior is “intrinsically disordered.”

Bryan Fischer: Carl Paladino gets right up in the grill of homosexual activists [AFA]

Oh, you’re so silly, Mr. Fischer. We gay activists aren’t baring our fangs. Because why would we, when baring both your and Mr. Paladino’s intense hostility for a vibrant population sect is far more advantageous to our equality fight?

Video: Paladino fine with gays adopting their own children to brainwash

Carl’s still rolling back what he so clearly and undeniably said. Now that means lip-service support for gay adoptions:

So the GOP candidate acts like the reporter is silly to even ask about gay adoption, just a day after he said he doesn’t want children “brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option–it isn’t“, and on the very same day that he’s maintaining opposition to marriage equality? Gee Carl: Can’t imagine why anyone might assume a “not” in your adoptive “Why?”. [eye roll, head shake, Speedo grind]

Paladino made the above comments while marching in the Columbus Day Parade. Fitting, since his comments seem much more fit for a flat-earth 1492 than for a well-rounded 2010.

-More from the man who brought Paladino to the event, professed “friend” Yehuda Levin: Video: Paladino’s friend: ‘Homosexuality is a misnomer…an attack on religion’ [G-A-Y]

-Still more from Yehuda Levin: Says same-sex marriage ’caused the last step before the floods of Noah that actually destroyed the worlds’; says the judicial and legislative system has “spiritually sodomized” (with Paladino sitting right beside him)

-On morning TV, Paladino danced around the comments/his connection to this group (as he does above): Video: On speedos, grinding, and buck-passing [G-A-Y]

***Oh, and Mr. Paladino: Please, for the love of vocabulary’s God, learn the meaning of the phrase “unequivocal support”!

American Family Association Endorses Homophobic Remarks Of Carl Paladino

“Carl Paladino, running for governor of the state of New York against Andrew Cuomo, trod yesterday where angels fear to tread: he told the truth about homosexuality, right out in front of God, the public, and vicious, mean-spirited homosexuals. Paladino brought it yesterday, throwing a live grenade into what had already been a contentious campaign, the kind that makes politics the spectator sport it is in the Empire State.

“Everything – every single thing – that Paladino said about the homosexual lifestyle yesterday was dead on the money. What he said is so true and so evident and so obvious that the real controversy here is that there is any controversy at all. The fact that homosexual activists will now bare their fangs, veritably dripping saliva as they go for Paladino’s carotid artery, and will do so with the full-throated blessing of the out-of-the-mainstream media, only illustrates the enormously dangerous clout these purveyors of perversity have been given in our culture.” – American Family Association radio host Bryan Fischer, who makes no mention of Carl Paladino’s admitted adultery or ten year-old love child with a former employee.

Carl Paladino Is The Real Victim In The ‘Dysfunctional Gays’ Saga

Carl Paladino says he is the one who's owed an apology, by "The Media," for attacking him over having the words "dysfunctional homosexual" in his speech script but never actually saying them. Yeah boyyy, play that victim card!
